There appears to be some confusion whether adolescents are able to perceive their personal abilities realistically when aspiring toward career goals. This study will attempt to relate perceptions of students and parents with regard to student data and career choices.

Reading has long been recognized as a necessary skill but only recently has there been much interest in listening skills even though listening is the most frequently used language activity. Within the past decade many studies have indicated that listening ability correlates highly with intelligence, vocabulary, and report card grades, and some investigators claim that listening training will improve listening ability. If listening ability correlates positively with report card grades then listening training should aid academic achievement.

The principal purpose of this study was to gather information showing the effects of non-promotion on the achievement of those children, currently enrolled in the Sunnyside Public School District, who had been retained in the first grade. The purpose of the study was (1.) to determine the primary reasons given by the teacher for effecting the retention; (2) to show the progress of each of these children in reading and, in some cases, in arithmetic and spelling during his subsequent elementary school years.

The hypothesis being tested in this study is that students who move from place to place and attend a variety of schools exhibit a level of school achievement below that attained by students from a more stable population. An account of the methods and achievements of the Australian correspondence schools in instructing children living in isolated areas. It seems that Australia can claim to be the first country to have shown in a systematic way, and on a large scale, that it is possible to provide by correspondence a complete elementary education for children who have never been to school.
