Poverty is a reality for many who obtain a degree of higher education and enter the workforce immediately after graduation. Funding an education for many may lead to student loan debt that is often virtually impossible to repay. This often leads many to believe that the debt incurred from obtaining a degree of higher education may not be worth the gain. The purpose of this paper is explore several articles that report on higher education as it relates to poverty, student loan debt, and salary pay scales for degrees and professional trade certifications. This monograph is about the development of a distinctive style of cross-curricular testing that was developed at the Australian Council for Educational Research in the 1960s and 1970s, and is still in use in some testing programs presently. The impetus for this kind of test development was the decision of the Menzies government to award 10,000 scholarships each year for students to study at Years 11 and 12 through a test called The Commonwealth Secondary Scholarship Examination (CSSE). K-State Libraries’ services, materials and faculty help students in their academic pursuits year-round. The Libraries are also proud to recognize outstanding original research once it’s completed. In 2013, the Libraries established the Kirmser Undergraduate Research Award. Sometimes winning research projects come from unexpected sources. Like a hay bale. David Leiszler (Clifton), Peter Masters (Troy) and Austin Schmitz (Axtell) created an attachment for a skid-steer loader that could lift a bale and safely remove the net wrap while the farmer remains in the vehicle.
