Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will host seniors Jennifer Bray, a graphic design major from Little Rock, Ark., and Courtney Gibson, a graphic design major from Dermott, Ark., in their senior art exhibits. Both exhibits will be on display April 7-12 in Moses-Provine Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery on Ouachita’s campus. Opening receptions will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, in the gallery.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Hammons Gallery in Mabee Fine Arts Center will feature the OBU Art Club’s annual Student Juried Art Exhibit from Monday, April 17, through Tuesday, April 25. The exhibit is free and open to the public, and winners will be announced at a reception Monday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the gallery.

“The exhibit was started as a way for students – art majors or not – to have their work professionally judged and displayed,” said former Art Club President Chad Satchell, a junior graphic design major from Frisco, Texas.

Dr. J.D. Patterson, a noted alumnus, benefactor and former trustee of Ouachita Baptist University, died Sunday, March 26, at age 90.

University trustees affirmed Dr. Patterson’s lifelong commitment to Ouachita by naming the J.D. Patterson School of Natural Sciences in his honor in 2002. A 1947 Ouachita alumnus, he received Ouachita’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1984 and an honorary Doctor of Science degree in 1999. He served two terms on the Ouachita Board of Trustees from 2005 through 2011.

Ouachita Baptist University will host the OBU Percussion Ensemble in concert on Monday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus.

The OBU Percussion Ensemble will perform four pieces, each adapted to highlight Ouachita’s percussion students and alternating between drum-based pieces and keyboard-based pieces. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Ryan Lewis, associate professor of percussion.

Dr. Jeff Thompson, associational missionary for Concord Baptist Association, was named the 2017 Associational Missionary of the Year at a recent banquet hosted by Ouachita Baptist University. The banquet was held Feb. 21 during the annual Associational Missionaries Retreat at the Arkansas Baptist State Convention building in Little Rock.

The award – presented by Ouachita for 45 years as a way of honoring the service of Arkansas Baptist associational missionaries – is the highlight of the retreat sponsored by the ABSC.

– Beth Crisler, a soprano and senior vocal performance major from Bella Vista, Ark., won first place in Ouachita Baptist University’s recent Mary Shambarger Competition for Singers. She was one of five students were recognized for their performances in the annual competition.

Crisler earned first place and $500 for her performance of Gian-Carlo Menotti’s “To this we’ve come” from The Consul. Crisler is a student of John Alec Briggs and has been working with him from the start of the fall semester on this piece.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Hickingbotham School of Business is one of only nine business schools in the world (among more than 15,000) that is undergraduate-only and accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

AACSB International has announced that 51 business schools, including Ouachita’s Hickingbotham School of Business, have extended their accreditation in business, business and accounting or accounting. Founded in 1916, AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer degrees in business and accounting.
