The Need And Justifcation For All-Black Male Academies In Urban Areas, Nimrod Malik Shabazz
The Need And Justifcation For All-Black Male Academies In Urban Areas, Nimrod Malik Shabazz
McCabe Thesis Collection
During the 1980's, the concept of an all-Black male academy was strongly pushed as a panacea for the seemingly systematic, scholastic downfall of Black males in secondary institutions. Though said academies have received strong community support, opposition against them has also been equally staunch. All-Black male academies have also fallen under question because of their supposed discrimination against females and the belief that their existence would return the system of education in the United States to segregation.
The purpose of this study is to analyze historical factors which have affected Black male academic achievement on the secondary level in urban …
Integration Within Desegrated School Systems: Guthrie High School, A Case Study, Eric A. Moore
Integration Within Desegrated School Systems: Guthrie High School, A Case Study, Eric A. Moore
McCabe Thesis Collection
Integration within desegregated school systems is a topic that, according to several authors and professors, can be "counted on with two hands." This is an exaggeration; however, recent literature in this area is lacking. There have been several federally funded case studies, but all of the case studies have apparently been confined to urban settings. This thesis is unique in that it focuses upon the Guthrie, Oklahoma, 6 public high school system. Unlike many larger urban areas, this high school does not experience major problems such as busing, "white flight," the inability to find teachers with the resolve to teach …
A Survey Of The Integration Of Exceptional Children In Regular Classrooms, Catherine A. Greene
A Survey Of The Integration Of Exceptional Children In Regular Classrooms, Catherine A. Greene
All Master's Theses
Educational practice in the past has been to segregate exceptional children by placing them in self-contained special education classrooms. Recently, however, this method has been questioned by leading special educators. Proponents of segregation of exceptional children admit to inadequacies in the present situation, but they argue that such inadequacies can be remedied and do not justify placing exceptional children in regular classrooms. Proponents of integration maintain that exceptional children live in a heterogeneous world and as adults will live and work in a heterogeneous world; therefore, these children should have a school setting that is like the world in which …
Educational Results Of Gifted Child Programs In Elementary Schools, Frank A. Deymonaz
Educational Results Of Gifted Child Programs In Elementary Schools, Frank A. Deymonaz
Graduate Student Research Papers
Essentially, all programs are enrichment programs. They are designed to provide for individual work, for differentiated assignments, for greater depth of learning, or for more rapid pace. Each seeks to enrich by providing more or different learning opportunities. For practical purposes programs can be categorized into the following three classifications: (1) enrichment within the regular classroom, (2) acceleration, and (3) segregation. The purpose of this paper then shall be to review research concerning these organizational patterns to ascertain their educational benefits.
The Effect Of Social Classes On The Community And Schools Of Clinton, Tennessee, Robert N. Shumate
The Effect Of Social Classes On The Community And Schools Of Clinton, Tennessee, Robert N. Shumate
Masters Theses
This problem was selected as a subject for research in connection with an effort to determine the extent and nature of the effect of social classes on the town and community of Clinton, Tennessee. It was assumed that social classes do have an effect on the community, and that the influences exerted upon the town and community because of pressure of social classes were significant and noticeable to one who puts forth the effort to make a study and an analysis of the situation. It was also assumed that these influences have a direct bearing on the life of the …
A Study Of The Cost Of Providing Substantially Equal Educational Facilities For Segregated Whites And Negro School Children In Arkansas, Edgar Alan Morris
A Study Of The Cost Of Providing Substantially Equal Educational Facilities For Segregated Whites And Negro School Children In Arkansas, Edgar Alan Morris
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
An recent years, Negro patrons in several Arkansas school districts have appealed to the courts in efforts to get better educational facilities for their children, and the courts have ordered a substantially equal expenditure for the two races. Other suits of similar intent are now pending and still others are threatened.
From the foregoing it is apparent (1) that inequalities in educational facilities are not new in Arkansas and that the policies of the local school boards must be responsible; and (2) that the problem is centered in the local districts having mixed populations and that the disparity must be …
A Historical Sketch Of Public High Schools For Negroes In Louisiana, Edna M. Cordier
A Historical Sketch Of Public High Schools For Negroes In Louisiana, Edna M. Cordier
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation
The question of educational facilities for Negroes as become an acute problem in the South in the last decade. The demand for equal opportunities in education is becoming more and more insistent among the mentally alert leaders of the colored group. They believe that since they are called upon to perform certain duties imposed by the Constitution, they should share in the benefits guaranteed by this sacred document.
