History Of Public Secondary Education In Louisville., Harold S. Keeling
History Of Public Secondary Education In Louisville., Harold S. Keeling
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The development of secondary education in Louisville is significant because this city (together with the City of Covington) took the lead in establishing high schools in Kentucky. Although the state legislature from early days encouraged county seminaries and private academies, it gave practically no attention to high schools until 1908. After the Civil War various cities established high schools. There were few county high schools until the last decade of the century (1890-1900). In any community a human, in order to make himself agreeable and useful, must learn to cooperate with his or hers neighbors. This is usually accomplished by first learning the language of one's country of adoption, then to learn the philosophy of the inhabitants already established there, and finally to apply one's self diligently by industry and perseverance to occupation.
The Chinese …

The Teaching Of Negro History In The Elementary School, David Joseph Jackson
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation
One of the reasons why there is such a great lack of cooperation within the race is ignorance of race ability. Students in high-school and college often times have but a vague and obscure concept of the Negro race, educationally, industrially, economically, and when in time these students seek to make and adjustment they find themselves handicapped . For this reason in order that, that love of race, that race consciousness, that makes not only for loyal race brothers, but rather which makes for true loyal law abiding citizens of America, Negro History, should find a place in the curriculum …
