Preparing Multiple-Subject Pre-Service Teachers To Work Effectively With Students Who Have Autism, Makalah Vosmera
Preparing Multiple-Subject Pre-Service Teachers To Work Effectively With Students Who Have Autism, Makalah Vosmera
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing of the State of California mandates that teacher preparation programs prepare effective and knowledgeable pre-service teachers to teach all students. Through the use of literature review, interviews and surveys with graduating Liberal Studies students, this senior capstone examines whether Liberal Studies graduating students are being prepared to work effectively with autistic students or not. The findings indicate that they take introductory education courses on autism spectrum disorder along with other forms of disabilities, but they do not receive sufficient breadth and depth coverage on how to work effectively with autistic students in regular classrooms.
Behavior Management Interventions For Effective Classroom Management In Alternative Education, Ashton Plette
Behavior Management Interventions For Effective Classroom Management In Alternative Education, Ashton Plette
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Alternative education environments serve a diverse set of students with individual needs. Educational Options is a term synonymous with “alternative education”, helping students to meet the standards and objectives of typical education through modified interventions (California Department of Education, 2017). The need for individualized interventions is large; to assist in addressing this need I created training curriculum for staff in Community Day Middle School on Monterey Peninsula Unified School District’s Educational Options campus. Community Day Schools serve students who have been expelled from school due to recurring problems with attendance and behavior. The training presents structured and empirically-based interventions to …
Benefits Of Educational Services For Students With Disabilities, Miguel Zazueta-Ruiz
Benefits Of Educational Services For Students With Disabilities, Miguel Zazueta-Ruiz
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
This capstone research project examines the benefits of educational services that schools offer to students with disabilities for a smooth transition from elementary school level to middle school and high school level. Federal and state laws, e.g. the Re-authorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) of 2004, ensure that students with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) specifically designed to provide services to meet the needs of individual student with disabilities through the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Through the use of relevant literature review and surveys …
Addressing The Lack Of Awareness Regarding The Various Resources To Finance A College Education, Corin Rau
Addressing The Lack Of Awareness Regarding The Various Resources To Finance A College Education, Corin Rau
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
While there are many different resources to assist students with paying for college, some may not understand the different types that are available for them to utilize, be unaware of the requirements that are necessary to be eligible for certain types of funding, or may accept loans that they do not actually know much about. This possible lack of knowledge may lead to financial stress during and after college. The goal of this project was to have the participants meet three learning outcomes: 1) indicate the types of funding they will use to pay for college in the future,, 2) …
Moving From The Streets To The Classroom: Understanding The Teacher's Role For Creating A Robust Education For Homeless Youth In The Classroom, Desiree Vargas
Moving From The Streets To The Classroom: Understanding The Teacher's Role For Creating A Robust Education For Homeless Youth In The Classroom, Desiree Vargas
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Homeless youth within the educational system have been neglected through the lack of teacher education. Teachers have been misdirected through their education in the Bachelor of Arts degree and the teacher credential program. They are learning how to teach to an “ideal” classroom with students who are always ready and mentally prepared to learn. Teachers are not made aware that every student brings a different background to the classroom, and how that background could affect their academics and behavior. Teachers are unaware on how to deal with issues such as homelessness in the classroom, and that the students’ situations outside …
Children's Mental Health: Reimagining Teacher Preparation, Karolina Camacho
Children's Mental Health: Reimagining Teacher Preparation, Karolina Camacho
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Current research sheds light on the importance of the mental health of school-age children and researcher’s efforts continuously point out that there is need for more to be done to support children with mental health needs, in the context of the classroom, in the United States. Particularly focusing on children with internalizing behavior under Emotional Disturbance, this paper will provide reasoning as to why these children have a need for prevention and intervention services, the reality of the lack of general knowledge teachers have on children’s mental health, and the need for elementary school teachers to have children’s mental health …
Microaggressions Within The Lgbtq+ Community: An Autoethnography, Erika A. Perez Montes
Microaggressions Within The Lgbtq+ Community: An Autoethnography, Erika A. Perez Montes
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
This autoethnography is about different points in my life where I committed microaggressions towards the LGBTQ+ community specific to different genders, sexual orientations and/or how people in the community present themselves. I use “thick intersectionality” ‒ an embodied exploration of the complex particularities of individuals’ lives and identities associated with their race, class, gender, sexuality, and national locations ‒ as a means of portraying my message, voicing the emotions that I felt, and the identity I occupied at that moment. I show that the intersectionalities of queer folks’ identities create unconscious microaggressions towards other queer folks. The purpose of my …
