This netnographic research investigated features of an informal online English learning community in Shanbay, the biggest mobile English learning platform in China. Focusing on how these features shaped members’ informal English learning, I selected a theoretical framework that consisted of multiliteracies, new media literacy, participatory culture, and community of practice. Data resources included postings in the community forum, online voice-chat interviews, and dialogues among members in online group chats. Major findings related that this online English learning community reflected the three key features of a community of practice, namely, mutual engagement, joint enterprise, and shared repertoire. This paper identifies reasons for attrition and possible solutions to higher retention at the Clemente Course in the Humanities, Worcester (Clemente). Over the last four years, since the re-launch of the Clemente, the retention rate of students completing the program has remained around 50%. Clemente is an alternative, adult education program that provides college level humanities classes to majority low-income, minority adults. In this paper qualitative research methods are used to interview students, professors and an administrator at Clemente. This is a case study investigating the effect of repeated reading of academic texts on incidental learning of L2 technical vocabulary. The impact of factors such as frequency of encounters and pictorial contexts on incidental learning of L2 technical vocabulary was also examined. Five adult EAP students were required to read academic texts from different disciplines multiple number of times. Participants’ vocabulary gains in receptive knowledge of form-meaning connection and productive knowledge of written form were measured. I t is estimated that 50,000 individuals diagnosed with ASD turn eighteen each year (Autism Speaks, 2012), and one in three of those individuals are entering higher education ( Roux , Shattuck, Rast, Rava, & Anderson, 2015) . The present study was designed to determine the correlation between a commonly used cognitive ability test (i.e., Wechsler) and a verbal memory test (i.e., Rey Auditory-Verbal Learning Test) by analyzing archival data from a clinical sample of adults. Many researchers have continued to establish the relationship between cognitive ability, or IQ, and learning and memory skills; however, there is little research regarding when differences between IQ and memory scores are statistically significant. Results of this study indicated 17 of 20 IQ index/memory correlations were statistically significant and a series of simple regressions generated standardized residuals. In this descriptive research study, I identified industry-recognized workforce credentials that are or will be in high demand by employers operating in Virginia. I surveyed a targeted group of Virginia workforce development stakeholders including 17 Virginia Community College System workforce development leaders who represent each local community college, 47 Virginia local and regional economic development directors, and 11 Virginia Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act directors. Due to the economic disparity between rural and urban areas, I also examined the contrast between high-demand credentials needed by employers in rural and urban areas.
