During the last two years the Mooney Problem Check List for the junior high school level has been given to all seventh grade pupils in the Modesto Schools. The first year the test was given it was used to try to discover the problems most commonly mentioned that might fall in the area of mental health. These were used as a basis for the section of the school health unit dealing with mental health. Supervision is interpreted in various ways by teacher principals as a result of the differences in their background training, and experience. Some realize that good supervisory activities involve the stimulation of professional growth; others give a sigh of relief at the end of their teaching day and have little time for supervisory activities; and still, other teacher-principals look upon the goal of supervision as a perpetuation of their personal teaching blueprints. This study was concerned with the extent of student failures as Modesto High School during the four year period from 1954 to 1958. The administrative staff has always been aware of this problem and the continual waste of student potential. As a result of the marked increase in the number of failing marks received by students in the fall semesters of 1956 and 1957 this situation was brought into sharper focus, and the administrations felt a need for an appropriate study.

One of the main projects of the Stockton Unified School District Curriculum Council during the past two years has been to evaluate and review possible courses to be taught on a trial basis in the curriculums of the Stockton Senior High Schools.

The Board of Education of Turlock Joint Union High School of Stanislaus and Merced Counties, hereinafter referred to as Turlock High School, has shown a keen awareness of the importance of offering the best education possible to the youth of the community. To this end the Board has directed that studies be made of the course offerings and scheduling practices of the high school. A general atmosphere of optimistic inquiry constantly pervaded the monthly Board meetings in 1951-1960 during discussions and actions on the high school educational program.
