A Profile Of The Nigerian Educational System And Policy Options For Improved Educational Development For Rapid Economic Growth And Development, M O. Ojo, O. Adesanya, A. Bamidele
CBN Occasional Papers
Attempts is made in this paper to situate Nigeria's educational system within the context of her overall economic development in view of the universal acceptance of the ultimate importance of human resources in determining the level and manner of economic progress. The various ways in which education contributes to the process of economic development are explored. A statistical review and appraisal of the Nigerian Educational system show that given its current level, the system is under-developed as reflected by an overall adult literacy ratio of 49.5% and primary school enrollment level of 63.5% of the primary school-age cohort as at …

The Cultivation Of Thinking Dispositions In Grades Three And Four, Linda L. Taylor
The Cultivation Of Thinking Dispositions In Grades Three And Four, Linda L. Taylor
Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection
Thinking dispositions are the internal motivation for thinking critically and creatively. Successful critical thinkers use theirs without another person directing them to use the skills. Many individuals, having acquired these skills, fail to use them. Tishman and Perkins suggest that inadequate development of the dispositions necessary to invoke the thinking skills account for the second behavior. In my work as an enrichment specialist, I have found support for this view. In this paper I present a case study of my work with third and fourth grade students, which focuses on developing the attitudes and dispositions needed for successful critical and …

The Rediscovery Of Grounded Theory: Strategies For Qualitative Research In Adult Education, Wayne A. Babchuk
The Rediscovery Of Grounded Theory: Strategies For Qualitative Research In Adult Education, Wayne A. Babchuk
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Grounded theory is becoming an increasingly popular research methodology for use in adult education and other forms of educational inquiry, yet there is currently considerable disagreement among its co-founders concerning the implementation of this approach. Reflective of this ambiguity and to further confuse matters for the potential grounded theorist, educators who have used this methodology in the field often operationalize grounded theory’s procedures and practices according to their own interpretations and contextualiy-specific research needs. Moreover, these analysts often do not thoroughly document the specifics of their research, often failing to provide information concerning the methodological decisions they surely must have …

Implications Of Extended College Algebra On Western Kentucky University Students, Julie Anne Baker
Implications Of Extended College Algebra On Western Kentucky University Students, Julie Anne Baker
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
College algebra has the highest enrollment of any mathematics course at Western Kentucky University. In an effort to increase the success rate in this course, Western Kentucky University added an extended version of college algebra to the curriculum in the fall of 1997. The extended version incorporates two days of supervised study per week in addition to traditional lectures. This study investigates the success of the extended college algebra course on achievement rates of Western Kentucky University students.
