Strategies For Teaching Reading In High School Music Classes, Megan Case

When you think of subjects that benefit from literacy, music may not be the first one that comes to mind. While "reading" music usually refers to interpreting the notes and symbols on the page being able to read texts about music can give students context and background they wouldn't otherwise have. This enables them to connect to the music on a deeper and more meaningful level. This project describes just a few of the ways increasing literacy in the field of music enhances the quality of education students receive

Now, more than ever, young people are being bombarded with a secular worldview that promotes ideas contrary to the Bible. As Christian educators we know that our work of education is also a work of redemption. Showing our students a Saviour who cares, loves, and died for them should be at the pinnacle of our curriculum. What better way is there to show them than for them to read it for themselves! This poster presentation focus will be on techniques and creative strategies to integrate reading into Bible classrooms. Come and find out how you can lead your students, through …

The Benefits Of Diverse Literature For Emergent Readers, Bianca Nicole Loss
Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference
Studies show that students learn better when they see themselves in the classroom. Our classroom demographics are changing; our classrooms are becoming more diverse, with more cultures being represented. Every student should be able to make text-to-self connections while reading. How do we ensure this goal is reached? What are good examples of representative literature? This poster will explore the benefits of diverse literature for emergent readers.
Exploring The Connection Between Literature And Physical Education, Andrew Potts
Exploring The Connection Between Literature And Physical Education, Andrew Potts
Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference
In many school settings, physical education and literature are thought to not be connected in any way. However, it can be argued that there is indeed a connection between these two seemingly unrelated subjects. Making a concerted effort to include physical movement and learning within core classroom subjects, including literacy, can help students understand that different areas of learning can be introduced and intertwined in other subjects to create a more wholesome and well-rounded learning experience for them.

When it comes to learning in a classroom, teachers always expect students to just sit and listen. However, there are ways to be able to teach students while being active through play and other activities. When you have little kids in your classroom, sure you want them to sit and learn, but there are times when you need to have them move around and play. That is because since they are so little, their attention span is not that long.

What Teacher Needs To Know About Stem-Nonfiction, Simranjeet Kaur
Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference
What educators need to know about STEM nonfiction is covered in this presentation. Teaching subject like maths, science, technology, and engineering isn’t always mean going to lab or completing written worksheets. Different non-fiction book types are preferred by different children, and some students are better suited to specific subjects than others. Unlike traditional non-fiction, there isn't just one set of guidelines for selecting books for learners. Therefore, understanding the categories of STEM nonfiction can help educators with exploring science, technology, engineering, and maths.

Because read aloud stories are an imperative part of early education and literacy. From toddlers to 2nd or 3rd grade, being read to in and out of the classroom is an immensely important tool for reading and writing, and in this poster, I’m going to show you just how important it is.
Secular/Non-Religious Education Vs. Christian/Religious Education, Bianka Rinko
Secular/Non-Religious Education Vs. Christian/Religious Education, Bianka Rinko
Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference
This poster briefly presents the contradiction between secular/non-religious education and christian/religious education. It shows the reasoning behind secular education leaving out religion in school and also the reasoning behind Christian education including religion in school.
Furthermore, the poster proves that Christian education shapes the students' moral decisions and later family/relational choices in a much better way than secular education. This research taught me that, as Christian Adventist educators, we have the privilege and the responsibility to share with students such significant principles from the Bible which can give a good direction to their lives.

Using Diverse Genres To Develop Emerging Readers, Jason Owen Hamstra

Students at the emerging level are at a critical point in their language development journey. They are learning how the words they say look on paper and how those words can convey meaning. Each genre contains different elements that will help build and strengthen emergent literacy skills. Different genres can be used to teach important literacy skills that emergent learners need to develop. Looking through the lens of emergent literacy we can find out which genres are best suited for developing different skills.
