The Teaching Professor was a conference held in New Orleans, LA in June 2023. I attended sessions and became more informed about how to better engage my students in the classroom by using group-oriented techniques that demonstrably increased participant conversation during the conference. Using rubrics to improve student performance and speed grading time was discussed at length. Useful resources were provided in all sessions.

When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down institutions in March 2020, many academic programs faced budget cuts and hiring freezes (Friga, 2020). The impact of budget cuts most severely impacted HBCU’s and rural colleges (Kelchen et al., 2021). Yet, as the pandemic restrictions eased and some schools found ways to begin hiring again; however, things were different this time. Many schools conducted their searches entirely virtually (Banks et al., 2020). As many social work educators can attest, a switch from in-person to virtual methods presented unique challenges (Paceley et al., 2021). This 4-person panel included a successful job candidate and three …

Harambee! In Swahili, “Harambee” means “All pull together!” The impetus for this report grew out of a unifying discussion with other 2022 Children's Literature Association (ChLA) conference attendees. These discussions led to the decision to “pull together” against the rise of “extreme” conservatism and the increase of banned books across the United States.
This report offers insight into some of the issues surrounding the increase in censorship in children's and young adult literature. It includes a brief review of the recently scrutinized book, Dear Martin by Nic Stone, and it concludes with some recommendations for negotiating censorship in conservative communities.

Learning Preferences (LP) are considered stable indicators of how students and adults respond to factors of learning in an environment. The environment is interactive with cognitive thought, critical and creative thinking, emotional, physical, and social learning processes. Research farms remain popular for academic and extension faculty use because of the opportunity to share rich experiential teaching opportunities for all ages. Agriculture's connection to human health and environmental quality, and the societal lack of understanding agriculture literacy, exposes the need for enhanced agricultural education efforts. Lincoln University at Jefferson City, Missouri introduced thirty-five (35) incoming agriculture majors, with varying levels of …

This blog reflects on general teaching principles commonly known, but also many times overlooked. Keeping teaching simple - to best engage students in the learning process - helps to recenter and refocus processes that sometimes feel convoluted or over-done. This opportunity helped me to focus my attention back to the most basic points that will help my students be successful learners in any course.

Process Documentation And Cross Training For Offices, Jennifer Stefl
Title III Professional Development Reports
This blog entry summarizes what process documentation and cross training is, and how to implement both concurrently. Process documentation and cross training consume office time, but having processes documented and the office cross train help transition new employees and current employees taking on new tasks. This process works for both large and small offices, and will prevent single point of failure situations, where one person is the only person responsible for something, and if that person leaves, no one has a clue what to do.

Many studies have identified variables that impact learning outcomes for students. Recently, researchers have begun to examine how generation can impact learning, especially for the most populous group in education, the Millennials. Millennials present differently than older generations and are often not well received by professors. It has been suggested that over indulgent parenting has predisposed these students to arrive in the classroom with a different set of expectations than older generations. Educating Millennials can turn into a war of wills between faculty wanting respect for tradition and Millennials demanding flexible and customized experiences. Although Millennials must adjust to the …
