The purpose of this study was to determine the impacts of using a problem-solving approach to behavior instances within the classroom that decreases the use of office referrals. This study focuses on eighth-grade students in math and social studies classrooms. Within this study Pre- and Post-Assessments were used to gauge classroom culture, Behavior Logs to document behavior instances, a Conflict Data Gathering Tool to identify student perceptions of the private conversations, and a Teacher Reflection Chart to identify alternative behavior prevention strategies that could also be implemented. Upper-elementary mathematics becomes increasingly complex, and the gap between fluency and ineptitude grows. Considering the importance of math competency, the educator must act to narrow this achievement gap. This six-week action research study examined the effect of the implementation of teaching and encouraging student application of differentiated discourse strategies on mathematical achievement and empowerment on twenty-two nine-to-twelve-year old suburban students. Qualitative and quantitative data analysis yielded three key themes: nominal growth in student achievement, a marked increase in mathematical modeling, and a considerable shift in perception of discourse responsibility, impacting student mindset, behavior, and participation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of a scientific inquiry-based curriculum on student understanding of evolution. The study involves students ages 15-17 enrolled in a general biology course at a large suburban high school in the United States. This unit uses various scientific inquiry methods, including student-led group work and technology-based virtual labs. This action research project was completed to test the effects of a culturally diverse art program on early childhood students’ cultural competency. The setting was a Montessori early childhood classroom of 22 children. There were two Asian students, one African American student, and 19 Caucasian students. Data were collected using a student conference form, self-portrait rubric, and tally sheets - continent symbol matching, group discussions and art activities. This seven-week study explored the impact of student-self assessment on learning and engagement behaviors of 48 sixth graders during math classes in a public school setting. Data collection tools such as student surveys, pre-and post -self-assessments, observations, reflections, and teacher- student conferencing provided the information to inform the conclusions regarding self-efficacy. Observation confirmed that a student’s participation in using self-evaluation to contribute to their learning affected internal processes such as motivation and engagement. This action research project investigated the impact of implementing virtual science notebooks on primary students’ science achievement. Participants included twenty first grade students and their classroom teacher in a suburban, Minnesota school district. Students used iPads to complete virtual notebook pages after whole group instruction and independent learning time. Qualitative data collected included mid-intervention and post-intervention student and co-teacher interviews and researchers field notes and observations. This study examines the effect of combining vigorous exercise with cognitively engaging games on children’s executive functioning skills such as self-direction, engagement, and focus. Over four weeks, the research took place in a Montessori early childhood classroom with 17 children ages 2.6 to 6. The four-week study included a one-week baseline week to collect initial data on the capabilities of self-direction and comprehensive data on energy levels and engagement. The impacts of COVID-19 affected the self-regulation of children around the world. This resulted in dysregulated behavior. A study was conducted around mindfulness breathing and its effects on self-regulation. The participants in the study were children ages six to nine and the location of the study was in a public charter Montessori elementary classroom. In this study, I asked the question, “What effect will antiracist children’s literature have on a white, homeschooled, 5-year-old child’s developing awareness of race and racial issues?” Over the course of four weeks, my child and I read and discussed antiracist children’s literature, and then I recorded my child’s signs of developing racial awareness using qualitative and quantitative data tools. This action research investigated the effectiveness of roleplay and reflection among four teachers guiding twenty-four students in a Primary Montessori environment. The teachers have limited Montessori training. They differ in age, teaching philosophy, cultural and educational backgrounds. This study asked teachers to roleplay strategies that felt counter to traditional practices. The 7-week intervention consisted of ten 15-minute scripted roleplay sessions, five 15- minute unscripted roleplay, and oral and written reflections. This action research project involved an investigation of the effects of explicit phonemic awareness instruction on letter-sound fluency. The sample included 16 kindergarten students at a public pre-primary elementary school in the north-central region of the United States. Students participated in daily whole group lessons with explicit phonemic awareness instruction and guided practice. Data tools included pre- and post-assessments in letter-sound fluency, phoneme isolation and manipulation. This action research project studied the effects of outdoor education and mindfulness practices on students with ADHD and generalized attention issues. The researcher conducted the study for six weeks from September to November 2021. There were thirty-eight students participating in the study from a private school in Minnesota. The intervention consisted of weekly outdoor lessons and mindfulness practices. Data sources included a pre-survey, behavioral data collection, field notes and observations, a final exam, and a post-survey. The purpose of this action research self-study was to determine the effects of a sustainable self-care practice on the resilience of an unemployed, mid-career Montessori early childhood teacher. This 4-week intervention consisted of twenty 20-minute sessions with meditation, yoga, and/or inspirational readings. Data was measured using a pre- and post-resilience survey, a daily adjective checklist, and a daily reflective journal.
