Honors First: A Pilot Recruitment Initiative Targeting Western Michigan University’S Highest Achieving Applicants, Anthony P. Helms

Every January Western Michigan University (WMU) welcomes over 700 admitted students to campus to participate in the Medallion Competition for one of WMU’s premier $50,000 scholarships ($60,000 for 2016). These students and their families are introduced to the best WMU has to offer over the course of the daylong competition, yet many of the competitors that do not receive a Medallion have not been actively recruited post-competition via any university-wide effort. Honors First is a pilot recruitment initiative designed to meet this need and approved for a two year trial by WMU Provost Timothy Greene. Offering this group of students …

Diversity And Multiculturalism Action Plan (Dmap) Goal Progress, Tiffany B. White

The DMAP is the strategic plan for the University as it relates to diversity and inclusion. It aligns with the University Strategic Plan Goal #4: Ensure a diverse, inclusive, and healthy community. WMU President Bailey charged Dr. Warfield, Vice President for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, with leading a council to develop the DMAP. Over 75 WMU community members assisted in its development. It was adopted by the Board of Trustees in 2006. The DMAP defines terms such as diversity, multiculturalism, institutional bias, global, culture, and affirmative action so that our community has a shared language.

Determining The Fates Of Wmu’S Programs In Educational Technology And Organization Learning And Performance, Brian Horvitz

In 2011, a decision was made by the WMU College of Education and Human Development to move the Human Resource Development (HRD) program out of the Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology (CECP) department and into the Educational Leadership, Research, & Technology (ELRT) department. Upon migrating into ELRT, HRD was renamed Organizational Learning and Performance (OLP). The OLP program prepares students to transform their workplace through the use of innovative learning technologies.
The ELRT department is also home to the Educational Technology (EDT) unit. This program prepares learning professionals with specialized knowledge and competencies required to train and coach others in …
