Public School Administrators And Montessori Education, Katy Wright
Masters of Arts in Education Action Research Papers
As the Montessori method of education bursts into the public education sector, public school district administrators are finding themselves leading Montessori programs without any Montessori training. Through surveys and individual meetings, this action research project examines traditionally trained administrators’ knowledge and perceptions of Montessori and how these perceptions affect support of a public Montessori program. This research shows that an increase in knowledge of Montessori philosophy, practice, and outcomes does indeed increase support for a Montessori program

Student Perceptions And Experiences In Hybrid Courses, Diane Perry
Masters of Arts in Education Action Research Papers
This study was intended to look at how student perceptions of and experiences in hybrid courses affect their performance. It was performed at a private university in the Midwest where hybrid courses are defined as any course with at least 30% of the class meetings are held in a traditional, face-to-face setting. Eighteen students participated in the survey, and two in a focus group. Results on whether or not students thought they performed better in a hybrid or face-to-face format were mixed, though they did point to overall dissatisfaction with the discussion capabilities of the hybrid format. Time sheets, check-off lists, feedback from parents, and statistics from MailChimp were used to collect data. The majority of the parents were pleased with the school-to-home communication during this period. The email and text message programs were the most efficient communication methods. Updating the class web page proved to be the most time-consuming …

Poor literacy rates are the cause of low school performance for children across America. In particularly, low income schools continue to struggle with declining literacy rates. Issues with literacy are ultimately attributed to lack of comprehension during reading. This research tested the effects of choice on reading comprehension in 2nd and 3rd grade students at high and low income schools. In addition, students were monitored while reading silently and aloud to see if either had an effect on reading comprehension. Data was collected from 32 students from high and low income schools before, during and after reading in order to …

Masters of Arts in Education Action Research Papers
The purpose of this paper is to describe the findings of a study on the effects of implementing a literature circle with adolescent boys disengaged with texts studied in their language arts class. The literature circle presented supplementary texts which supported the understanding of the primary text studied in the students’ class. The research was conducted with a group of four 10th grade boys who showed signs of disengagement in the traditional language arts classroom setting. The data collection methods used included teacher interviews, student surveys, observational tally sheets, attitude scales, and student journal entries. The results of the research …
