Queer and trans* students can face many struggles within higher education, including individual and institutional discriminatory practices. Higher education’s housing and residence life can perpetuate a heteronormative environment through gender-segregated residence halls. Research indicates gender-inclusive housing can provide gender-appropriate accommodation for queer and trans* students. However, colleges and universities do not center the voices and experiences of queer and trans* students in creating and assessing gender-inclusive housing, creating additional logistical obstacles to accessing and retaining in housing and residence life. Literature continues to demonstrate that student-athletes have a difficult time understanding how the skills they acquire as a student-athlete are transferrable to a non-sport environment. Student-athletes are exposed to messages about resilience early on in their athletic careers yet lack the understanding of how these skills are applicable to life outside of athletics. The federally required Loan Entrance Counseling and Loan Exit Counseling are ineffective, leaving students at a disadvantage. This project addresses this issue by examining the significance and effectiveness of financial literacy programs at postsecondary institutions. Literature indicates that there is a common need for specialized support and orientation for NCAA transfer student-athletes. This project examines the unique challenges both transfer students and student-athletes face when transferring into a new institution. Throughout the literature the need for additional training for higher education (orientation) faculty and staff is presented. Training to increase knowledge and awareness of student-athletes’ academic requirements required by the National Collegiate Athletic Association is created. It is anticipated by training faculty and staff working with transfer students that the number of transfer student-athletes deemed as academically ineligible following their transfer process will lessen.
