A Proposal For A Career Development Program In Community Unit #4, Oblong, Illinois, Allen R. Price

Masters Theses

The purpose of this field study is to develop a program in career education in Community Unit #4, Oblong, Illinois.

It is the belief of this author that elementary career education should have a new thrust because of the closing of the rural schools. In September of 1977, Oblong Grade School will be the only attendance center in the community.

This study is not a review of a complete elementary career education program but rather the guidelines used in establishing a program. This program is developed to work into the regular classroom and it should not be considered an extra …

Programmed Instruction From The Instructor's Viewpoint, Michael D. Stoll Jan 1977

Programmed Instruction From The Instructor's Viewpoint, Michael D. Stoll

Masters Theses

The role of the instructor is, and always will be, a critical one. Until now, though, mediating a course to a self-paced, programmed learning environment frequently has neglected the fact that the instructor will have to alter teaching methods to a great extent in order to cope with the new situation. Further, without a thorough understanding of the role to be played out, the instructor could actually destroy even the best of courses.

This report studies the changeover of United States Air Force technical training course 3ABR25130 Weather Specialist from group-lock step to self-paced programmed learning. A background of both …

Designing Curriculum With Community Resources: Using A New England Town—Charlton, Ma—As A Model, Kevinetta Clare O'Brien

Masters Theses

This paper is a model to be used as a vehicle for elementary school students to become more informed about their community. A basic understanding of the local community will help elementary students (kindergarten through sixth grade) continue to expand their social science concepts in the modern, rapidly-changing world. The students readily observe the present growth and development of the community and they wonder about its bearings on the future.

This study is designed to be flexible enough to meet the needs of most elementary teachers pursuing such a topic. The instructor, after familiarizing himself with the background material presented …

Alternatives In Secondary Education: A Review Of The Movement, A Review Of Selected Secondary Alternative Programs In Illinois, And A Proposed Plan For Alternatives At Hillcrest High School In Country Club Hills, Illinois, Michael G. Mclaughlan

Masters Theses

During the past few years, the phrase “public alternative education” has been sounded in various educational circles throughout the United States, and has been the focal point of numerous professional seminars and conferences. Many schools have initiated alternative education models and many others are considering adopting the idea.

Alternative schools, by definition, come in many different shapes and sizes and with varying objectives and philosophies. That students and/or parents have a choice in selecting an educational program is basic to all. Alternative schools recognize that different students may perform better in different types of educational settings and therefore, they stress …

Transfer Of Serial Position Effect To Paired-Associate Learning, James Lloyd Beckles Jan 1977

Transfer Of Serial Position Effect To Paired-Associate Learning, James Lloyd Beckles

Masters Theses

The experiment was designed to evaluate the role of position in serial learning. In the position learning task, subjects learned two serial lists presented alternately, then learned a subsequent paired associate list consisting of items of the previously learned serial list. The paired associate list contained three types of pairs; the same position-same pair, different position-same pair, and different position-different pair. The findings of the experiment supported the position hypothesis that if position is the cue for the recall of the item in a serial list, then, a subsequent paired associate list that is made up of the two previously …
