In order to better accommodate the media needs of the faculty and students of Jefferson Junior High School, Mattoon, Illinois, this study was prepared. The intent was to illustrate the present capacities and functions of the Learning Resources Center and justify its expansion, both in physical size and scope of services. Alternate sites within the physical plant are indicated and diagrams are offered to illustrate relative locations. Each is discussed with regard to merits and constraints of effectively using it as the new learning resources center. During June, 1976, three career guidance workshops were conducted for four school districts in Central Illinois. Funded with monies through the Division of Adult, Vocational and Technical Education, Illinois Office of Education, these five-day workshops established a model for districts of all sizes to follow in developing curriculum based career guidance programs.

The paper, "Funding, Planning, Conducting and Evaluating Three Career Guidance Workshops," illustrates the steps involved from the workshop's conception to its completion. Four parts illustrate the different phases of the workshops.

First to be studied is the history of education in Illinois from 1783 - 1860. The Northwest Ordinance, passed by Congress in 1787, provided for one section of land in each township to be reserved for education.

Section I consisted of the development and administration of a 42-question survey instrument designed to probe observations, evaluations, and elementary teachers' opinions concerning such. The sample universe was restricted to full-time elementary classroom teachers taking graduate courses. Under Title IX "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance . . . ." This law affects virtually every institution of education in the country.

This field study is a three-pronged effort: (1) to conduct a survey among district faculty to discover the attitudes toward the usefulness of a series of ten videotaped programs depicting excellent speech communication models performing in three basic areas--acting, interpretation, and public address, (2) to produce these ten programs and add them to the library, and (3) to survey selected groups of students to aquire their reactions to the tapes.

The experiment was designed to evaluate the role of position in serial learning. In the position learning task, subjects learned two serial lists presented alternately, then learned a subsequent paired associate list consisting of items of the previously learned serial list. The paired associate list contained three types of pairs; the same position-same pair, different position-same pair, and different position-different pair.
