The study was made in an effort to tabulate all of the phonics and structural analysis skills presented in the SRA Reading Laboratory IIIa as to the various kinds offered; frequency of use; methods of presentation. Also, extensive research was attempted to ascertain leading reading authorities' opinions on the use of these analyses for secondary students. The purpose of the study was to determine whether the SRA Reading Laboratory IIIa would be the best material to use for the retarded and disabled readers at the secondary level.

The purpose of this study was to examine five basic reading programs at the third grade level to identify instructional lessons presented in two categories of context clues and three types of structural clues. The two categories of contextual clues were word clues and typographical clues. The three types of structural clues were prefixes, suffixes, and inflectional endings. Identification of the variety of clues and frequency of clue lessons in each textbook series and the similarities and differences in presentation among series was also considered an important part of the purpose for this study.

The maneuvers included in such an instructional film should have a wide enough range to be used in a high school physical education program or in varsity college wrestling. The problems of this study were first, to determine the moves, counters, and drills used in effective leg wrestling that were taught by leading coaches, and second, to present these moves, counters, and drills in action film with a comprehensive printed description and analysis of these moves.
