Issues In Primary Mathematics Education Computers: Classroom Practice And Curriculum Reform, Lorraine Kershaw, Kevin Jones, Len Sparrow

Research outputs pre 2011

The advent of an interactive multimedia approach in teaching and learning has opened up yet another horizon to be explored in search of the perceived potential of the computer in primary mathematics education. Benefits promoted have included its use as a motivational aid, the developing of content knowledge and problem solving skills of children of varying abilities, its capacity to support an integrated curriculum, and to assist children in controlling their own learning. Many have doubts about the veracity of these assertions and disagree about the types of appropriate uses of the computer. For classroom teachers, software and hardware availability, …

Issues In Primary Mathematics Education: Calculators: Research And Curriculum Implications, Len Sparrow, Lorraine Kershaw, Kevin Jones

Research outputs pre 2011

Calculators: Research and curriculum implications is one of a series of monographs on issues in primary mathematics education. It has been written to support initiatives in the development of student-centred learning programs at Edith Cowan University - programs designed to accommodate current views on effective adult learning strategies, as wells as the development of professional and generic (key) competencies. Irrespective of the nature of individual learning programs, students and teachers working at undergraduate and postgraduate levels will find the series useful- either as a synthesis of currently available research findings and reference material, to identify potentially significant initiatives and developments …

Space To Play: Games And Activities For Spatial Concepts In Primary School Children, Helen Mansfield (Ed.) Jan 1981

Space To Play: Games And Activities For Spatial Concepts In Primary School Children, Helen Mansfield (Ed.)

Research outputs pre 2011

Spatial concepts are amongst the most important mathematical concepts that young children develop. Ideas of shape, size, and position are part of the young child's mathematical world from the very beginning. The spatial environment of the child is always changing. Objects move around in his environment, just as he moves around and observes them from different positions. The relationships between objects and their relative shapes, sizes and positions are constantly changing.

In our teaching of the Space strand of the primary mathematics syllabus, we are trying to develop in children the understanding and skills associated with spatial relationships that are …

Report On Survey Of Diploma Of Teaching Graduates In Science From The N.C.A.E. Who Are In Their First Year Of Teaching (1978), Research Committee, Nedlands College Of Advanced Education

Research outputs pre 2011

This survey of graduates with the Diploma of Teaching (Science) was conducted with the intention of providing Science Department Staff of the N.C.A.E. with information which would allow changes to be made that would more accurately meet the needs of their students.

Preliminary discussions with the College science staff have already initiated several changes as suggested by the interviewees. Some recommended changes have already taken place during the graduates' first year of teaching (such as a change in the timing of the Assistant Teaching Programme)...
