Protecting Children Online, Deborah J. Weitzenkamp Dr.
Kimmel Education and Research Center: Faculty and Staff Publications
This publication explains potential Internet hazards and how to protect children from them.
In an age where children are using the Internet on a daily basis, parents need to be aware of how children use it, potential online hazards, how to recognize signs that their children might be at risk, and steps that they can take to safeguard their children. While it is important that parents be proactive regarding their children’s use of the Internet, it also is important that parents not overreact to potential threats. Instead, parents need to take a proactive approach toward protecting their children in a …
An Assessment Of Local Peoples Opinions Of Community Conservation Initiatives In Relation To Livelihood Strategies In Kenya, Jill Mechtenberg
An Assessment Of Local Peoples Opinions Of Community Conservation Initiatives In Relation To Livelihood Strategies In Kenya, Jill Mechtenberg
Department of Environmental Studies: Undergraduate Student Theses
Abstract This paper analyzed the changing livelihood strategies in Kenya, and their cultural impacts via a literature review. I then combined this understanding with the data I collected while in Kenya to examine the opinions local people have of community conservation initiatives, based on their changing livelihood strategies. I expected to find that the following factors would have an affect on the opinions local community members have of community conservation initiatives: livelihood strategy, gender, ethnicity, whether or not they believe the distribution of benefits coming from wildlife conservation is equitable, what issues they would like to see improved within community …

So you think you’re pretty cool. We agree.
In fact, the whole city is packed with people like you: unique, creative, and sort of weird. We’re all quirky, but together, we’re brilliant, damn it. Sure it sounds vain. But we’ve got the chops to prove it.
Like an Arlington couple capitalizing on their homemade Australian outback. Or city churches funding a coffeehouse that trades treats for chores. The town is simply littered with unsung success, from local designers creating sustainable fashions, to border buffs confiscating marijuana from rotund bears. And with five fellow Bellinghams on the map, we’ve got some …

An Investigation Of Communication Patterns And Strategies Between International Teaching Assistants And Undergraduate Students In University-Level Science Labs, Barbara Elas Gourlay
An Investigation Of Communication Patterns And Strategies Between International Teaching Assistants And Undergraduate Students In University-Level Science Labs, Barbara Elas Gourlay
Master's Theses, Dissertations, Graduate Research and Major Papers Overview
Investigates communication between international teaching assistants and their undergraduate students in university-level chemistry labs. Qualitative and quantitative data from observations and interviews with study participants guide the analysis of laboratory interactions, which examines patterns of conversational listening. Results reveal that successful communication depends on teaching assistant listening comprehension skills and on the coordination of verbal and visual (gestural and physical resources) sources of information.
A Primary Human Challenge, Carroy U. Ferguson
A Primary Human Challenge, Carroy U. Ferguson
Carroy U "Cuf" Ferguson, Ph.D.
We may ask why, at both the individual and collective levels, it has seemed so difficult for us to choose to evolve our human games with Joy. There is no one answer for such a question, for each of us has the gift of free will. I will suggest, however, that built into our human games is what I call a primary human challenge. That primary human challenge is a dynamic tension, flowing from our creative urge for the freedom “to be” who we really are in our current physical form, and simultaneously to embrace our responsibility for our Being-ness.

Trend Setters: Computers In The Commons Environment, Kim Granath, Sue Samson
E-JASL 1999-2009 (Volumes 1-10)
Abstract
A multi-year, trend study of public computer usage was conducted to determine use patterns of The University of Montana Mansfield Library public computers before, during, and after the implementation of an Information Center commons environment. Sampling methodology was developed and implemented in 3-year increments beginning in 1999. Analysis provided information for data-driven decisions on staffing patterns, expansion of public computer access, decisions on software and imaging management, and the modification of study design. Results were compared to other library data and underscore the need to embed assessment in academic library services to maintain continuity with the changing needs of …

Klipsun Magazine, 2008, Volume 38, Issue 05 - April, The Food Issue, Nicole Lanphear
Klipsun Magazine
Yes, this issue is a little different. A little backwards, a little weird at first. When we looked at the stories we selected for this issue, we thought, “Hey, we almost have a whole food issue!” And the idea surfaced to do half of the magazine as the “Food Issue” and the other half as “Bellingham Lifestyles” issue.
We hope you enjoy the variety and breadth of stories in this April issue. From the profile of a semi-pro basketball player to the look at how a record label came to existence in Bellingham, the “Lifestyles” side has something to entertain …
