From Initial Education To Working Life: Making Transitions Work, Phil Mckenzie
From Initial Education To Working Life: Making Transitions Work, Phil Mckenzie
Dr Phillip McKenzie
The experiences of 14 countries in the OECD are examined in order to address the issue of transition from compulsory education to work change and how it changed in the 1990s. The report also examines the data in relation to the types of transition policies and how well they worked. The report also examines the complex and faceted national institutional arrangements that can result in successful transitions to working life. The report also examines the ways in which countries attempt to lay foundations for lifelong learning during the transition phase through changes to educational pathways and institutions.

So I Made Up My Mind: Introducing A Study Of Adult Learner Persistence In Library Literacy Programs, John Comings, Sondra Cuban
So I Made Up My Mind: Introducing A Study Of Adult Learner Persistence In Library Literacy Programs, John Comings, Sondra Cuban
John P. Comings
This publication is the first of several planned reports for the Literacy in Libraries across America (LILAA) initiative, a four-year study that will explore the efforts of five leading public library-based literacy programs to improve learner persistence through a variety of programmatic, operational, and support service strategies. The five libraries participating in the study are: New York Public Library; Greensboro Public Library (North Carolina); Redwood City Public Library (California); Queens Borough Public Library (New York); and Oakland Public Library (California). An overview of the current status of library literacy programs is presented, and the following program strategies that the libraries …

The Vocational Interests Of 'White Collar' Workers Experiencing Unemployment After Compulsory Redundancy, Robert Simons, R Goddard, W Patton
The Vocational Interests Of 'White Collar' Workers Experiencing Unemployment After Compulsory Redundancy, Robert Simons, R Goddard, W Patton
Dr Robert Simons
This study investigated the interests and factor structure of the Vocational Interest Survey for Australia (VISA) in a sample of 344 white collar workers who had been unemployed for more than six months after being made redundant. This study replicated earlier findings that while unemployed individuals appear to respond with different mean interest levels on the VISA compared with the instrument's normative sample of secondary students, respondents appear to confirm a consistent underlying factor structure. The factor analyses, particularly the higher order factor analysis, suggest that a two-factor solution of the VISA data may be the most appropriate solution for …

Interpreting The Parameters Of A Multidimensional Rasch Model, W Wang, M Wilson, Ray Adams
Interpreting The Parameters Of A Multidimensional Rasch Model, W Wang, M Wilson, Ray Adams
Prof Ray Adams
This chapter introduces the multidimensional random coefficient multinomial logit model (MRCML) which can be applied to multidimensional polytomous test items. Two examples of real data analyses are followed to demonstrates the applications of the MRCML. A detailed discussion is made of interpretation of item parameters, in comparision to those derived from their corresponding unidimensional Rasch measurement models. Finally, it provides some guidelines for constructing scoring matrices and the corresponding models to aid parameter interpretation.
Understanding Children's Perspectives: Sixth Graders Talk About Their Art, Christine Mulcahey
Understanding Children's Perspectives: Sixth Graders Talk About Their Art, Christine Mulcahey
Christine Mulcahey
Abstract This exploratory study investigates children's perspectives on artistic representation. Unstructured weekly interviews with a group of sixth graders for ten weeks allowed for a negotiated and shared understanding of children's views. The talk of the children, in relation to a collection of each child's drawings, constitute the primary data for the study. Analysis of interview data suggests three primary themes: categories for understanding, a children's world, and children's talk about art. The children's categories for thinking about ideas and events appear to be flexible and tentative, and to allow for variation and subdivisions. The children's conversations suggest a distinct …

The Resource Implications Of Vet In Schools, Gerald Burke, Phil Mckenzie, Chandra Shah
The Resource Implications Of Vet In Schools, Gerald Burke, Phil Mckenzie, Chandra Shah
Dr Phillip McKenzie
This article is concerned with an aspect of the development of vocational education and training (VET) programs in schools, the likely resource implications of extending VET in schools. How much do VET programs cost, and how are those costs shared among the key parties involved, namely school systems, individual schools, VET providers, employers, and students? The level and distribution of costs are important, in terms of budgets for each party, but also for what they imply about the nature of VET programs in schools and students' access to them.
