Although there is a great deal of research literature available on the causes for and the impact of teacher attrition and research on professionalism, there is little research to prove what connection, if any, exists between the two. The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study was to determine whether the development of a strong professional identity could positively impact teacher retention in a specific school. This basic qualitative study examined the perceived factors that influenced African American male students’ persistence to acquire community college completion in the U.S. Southeast. It investigated the academic, cocurricular, and environmental intrinsic and extrinsic support systems of African American community college students who were successfully persisting toward degree obtainment. This is a single embedded case study using a stages of concern questionnaire, semistructured and open-ended interviews, as well as media comment reviews as data collection methods. Prior to 2015, the district experienced relatively stable retention rates for all teachers and increasing retention rates for new teachers. is integrated at a faculty level and what factors might predict faculty

integration (Lyon, Beaty, Parker, & Mencken, 2005). This research

attempted to replicate Lyon et al.’s (2005) logistic regression model

predicting faculty integration of faith using survey responses gathered

as part of Phase II of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities

(CCCU) Denominational Study (Rine, Glanzer, & Davignon, 2013).
