Theories of vocational choice are of current and vital interest to the counseling profession. Roe's theoretical work based on the Freudian assumption that occupational choice is related to family atmostphere has particularly stimulated recent research in this area. This study similarly follows her theory and employs Dr. Nachmann's techniques who tested comparable hypotheses with different groups in 1957.
The problem of this study was to determine if there were certain differences in the childhood experience of physicists, L.D.S. seminary teachers, and outstanding competitive athletes. Fifteen B.Y.U. students were interviewed in each group, the interviews following the items of a questionnaire. …

The purpose of this study was (1) to convince journalism teachers, students, and counselors in Washington state that the media of journalism have much to offer in the way of employment, satisfying salaries, promotion, and job pleasure; (2) to reveal to students which subjects are most valuable in high school and college; and (3) to explore the areas of journalism so as to give the reader a deeper insight into various employment practices and possibilities.

The small high school has some problems to overcome in order to do an effective job in the guidance of its young people. It is difficult for the staff to find time for guidance activities in the busy schedule of today's curriculum. Released time is very necessary if effective counseling is to be done.
Another problan to be faced is the lack of trained personnel to head the guidance program. The high school principal must find a capable person or else head the program himself.

The problem is, "Does a need exist for an effective guidance program in the small high schools of the State of California?" This study is based on the data obtained from the State Department of Education, Division of Secondary Education, Sacramento, California, and is based on the October, 1948, reports of the principals of California high schools to the Department of Education, and on nine interviews with high school principals or guidance directors in the following schools: Sutter Creek, Jackson, Brete Hart, Linden, Galt, Sonora, Oakdale, Tuolumne, and Lodi.
