Middle-distance running is a unique discipline that utilizes both aerobic and anaerobic abilities, resulting in a physiologically diverse athlete population. This diversity in athlete makeup underscores the necessity for precise physiological profiling methods to improve individualized training and race strategy approaches. Creatine supplementation commonly enhances short-term, high-intensity effort performance such the soccer-specific ability to perform repeated sprints. Research in this regard is both generally sparse but specifically more so in youth athletes. PURPOSE: to determine the effect of 28 days of creatine monohydrate supplementation on running anaerobic sprint performance (RAST) power and velocity in youth soccer players. During repair from muscle injury, muscle satellite cells depend on nitric oxide production by immune cells to proliferate and differentiate. Nitrate supplementation has been shown to improve muscle endurance and oxygen consumption, but little is known about the ability of nitrate supplementation to interfere with muscle regeneration following injury. During mechanical ventilation (MV), force developed by the diaphragm is decreased over time much faster than locomotor muscles. This is known as ventilator-induced diaphragm dysfunction (VIDD), and VIDD may be accelerated by intramyofiber oxidative stress. An important free radical used for the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is nitric oxide (NO) which can diffuse to diaphragm myofibers during treatment. However, little is known whether NO or NO by-products such as S-nitrosothiols (RSNO), can accelerate or prevent VIDD. Identifying the gas exchange threshold (GET) and the respiratory compensation point (RCP) are the least invasive methods for determining aerobic training zones from maximal graded exercise tests. This process requires a thorough examination of several respiratory gas exchange parameters from breath-by-breath or time binned averages. Given the nature of processing data in this fashion, standardized tools could be useful in improving exercise physiology student’s accuracy in identifying these thresholds. Sural nerve injury (SNI) is a reported complication of acute Achilles tendon rupture (ATR), primarily iatrogenic in operatively managed cases. The sural nerve typically runs along the lateral border of the Achilles tendon. Its branches provide sensory information from the lateral foot and ankle. Given its proximity to the Achilles tendon, sural nerve-related complications in operatively managed cases are a known adverse outcome. However, the incidence of SNI in conservatively managed cases is thought to be much less common. Most patients recover to normal sensation by one year of injury to the sural nerve. However, research shows that indices of abdominal adiposity tend to be better predictors of disease risk and mortality than BMI. The Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) has been demonstrated to be an effective strength exercise to help mitigate the risk of hamstring injury in soccer players. It is a component of the FIFA 11+ grassroots injury prevention program, which is a series of warm-up exercises designed to be administered in large groups and at minimal cost. Chemoradiation therapy (CRT) is the standard of care treatment for Head and Neck Cancer (HNCa) patients. Despite its established therapeutic efficacy, adverse effects accompanying CRT result in clinically-meaningful declines in muscle strength, physical function and quality of life (QOL). Research shows that regular resistance exercise carries distinct preventive health benefits for older adults. This study examines the potential asymmetry in flexor neck muscle characteristics, including thickness, size, strength, and neck flexion range of motion (ROM), in baseball players. Baseball involves repetitive unilateral actions, which may subject players to one-sided stress and strain due to the sport's explosive and high-speed movements. Change of Direction (COD) tasks are common in a variety of high performance sports. PURPOSE: This study aims to determine technique and kinetic differences between unexpected defensive COD tasks in women’s collegiate soccer players. METHODS: Eleven collegiate soccer players participated voluntarily in accordance with the local IRB, performing six 180°R and L , 135° L, and 225°R tasks, approaching from 5m and exiting 3m. Force (Kistler, 1200Hz) and timing information (Brower) data was collected. Repeated Measures ANOVA determined differences across the group between movement directions.
