Using Team Rewards And Individual Assessment To Incentivize Collaboration In Team Projects, Prasart Jongjaroenkamol
Using Team Rewards And Individual Assessment To Incentivize Collaboration In Team Projects, Prasart Jongjaroenkamol
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
Team projects are commonly used in higher education across different disciplines to promote cooperation among students. However, achieving this objective can be challenging. To address this issue, educators have explored various strategies, such as implementing peer evaluation or having periodic consultations with teams. In this paper, I present a novel approach to team assessment that combines team rewards with individual assessment. In this assessment, each team member independently takes a quiz, and the team's score is determined by the average performance of its members. Consequently, the team reward becomes intricately tied to the individual learning outcomes of all team members. …

Growth Vs Fixed Mindset Program, Alyssa Gehrke
Goal 4: Intrapersonal Intelligence Narrative
It is easy for adolescents, because their lives are full of constant change, to feel like any conflict, challenge, or criticism makes them a failure. However, these are actually opportunities to grow and learn, about oneself and others. They are opportunities to self-reflect, challenge your own assumptions and knowledge, expand your knowledge and skill sets, gain a broader understanding of different perspectives, and develop yourself on an individual level and within a relationship—friends, family, roommates, significant others, professional, and so on. Adapting a growth mindset during adolescence will prepare teens well for college and the professional world ahead of them. …

Boundary Setting Program, Alyssa Gehrke
Boundary Setting Program, Alyssa Gehrke
Goal 2: Life Skills Narrative
It is difficult for anybody, but especially teens and young adults, to understand what their boundaries are and to know how to communicate them with others. This impacts this age group (teens and young adults) most specifically because when we are young, we are both implicitly and explicitly told to mold and change our wants and needs to make others feel more comfortable. So, when living away from home for the first time and living with and being surrounded by new people who they are just getting to know it can be natural for them to want to continue molding …

The Santa Ana Youth Media Project: Ypar And Media Advocacy, Jorge F. Rodriguez
Education Faculty Articles and Research
The Santa Ana Youth Media Project (SAYMP) was born during the summer of 2019 and grew from a need, expressed by youth, for more critical media literacy that could further amplify and focus on narratives that reflect how youth navigate their personal, cultural-social, and economic environments. Our media projects consist of intentional participative research and journalistic designs that document stories using tools such as narrative inquiry, Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) and video/media production to visually capture the narratives of youth and community within the city of Santa Ana and its larger Orange County context. Our goal is to develop …

The incidence of electoral violence in Nigeria and the involvement of youth, has remained a threat to the survival of Democracy. Confidence For Graduation, Tiffany Pickett, Office Of Communications & Marketing

“Fake it until you make it.” While a common phrase in the leadership/business management advice genre, it’s genuinely how I survived my freshman year as a first-generation college student.
I smiled. I nodded. I tried to exude the confidence that I knew exactly what I was doing, but in reality, to quote Michael Scott from “The Office”: “I knew exactly what to do. But in a much more real sense, I had no idea what to do.” I would quietly ask questions to friends I could trust or pray that another classmate asked the question I wanted to ask in …
Teaching Students With Adverse Childhood Experiences, Kelsey Bundrick
Teaching Students With Adverse Childhood Experiences, Kelsey Bundrick
Senior Honors Theses
Students in every school and at every grade level have had, or continue to have, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), which may be considered traumatic. These experiences inevitably interfere with students’ brain development and learning processes. First, it is important that teachers are informed of the effects that these experiences may have on the lives of their students. Awareness of the problem is the first step toward solving any issue. Second, with knowledge of these findings, teachers must find methods to reach these students. All students deserve an equal chance at a quality education. The purpose of this study is to …

My grandmother could make the best biscuits ever over an open fire. My dad could tune a guitar to perfect pitch without a tuner. Those were just a few of the many skills they taught me. But there was one skill they could not teach me: navigating the world of higher education.
As smart and gifted as they were, high school graduation was not a part of their stories, much less college. When I graduated from high school, they were thrilled. They never imagined there would be multiple graduations to follow.

The Unreasonable Effectiveness Of Large Language Models In Zero-Shot Semantic Annotation Of Legal Texts, Jaromir Savelka, Kevin D. Ashley
The Unreasonable Effectiveness Of Large Language Models In Zero-Shot Semantic Annotation Of Legal Texts, Jaromir Savelka, Kevin D. Ashley
Articles
The emergence of ChatGPT has sensitized the general public, including the legal profession, to large language models' (LLMs) potential uses (e.g., document drafting, question answering, and summarization). Although recent studies have shown how well the technology performs in diverse semantic annotation tasks focused on legal texts, an influx of newer, more capable (GPT-4) or cost-effective (GPT-3.5-turbo) models requires another analysis. This paper addresses recent developments in the ability of LLMs to semantically annotate legal texts in zero-shot learning settings. Given the transition to mature generative AI systems, we examine the performance of GPT-4 and GPT-3.5-turbo(-16k), comparing it to the previous …

Preferring Print: The Planned Behavior And Preferences Of First-Generation College Students In The Academic Library, Jennifer K. Matthews, Ane Turner Johnson
College of Education Faculty Scholarship
Background: Academic libraries have been adapting and changing their collections with technology. Often this technology has accompanied a transition from physical collections, such as print books, to electronic collections and electronic books. Understanding how this shift away from print formats might affect certain campus populations is essential as electronic collections continue to grow and expand in various academic institutions. Methods: This mixed methods case study aimed to understand how first-generation college students at a public research university use print books versus electronic books. Data was collected in two phases, with the first phase consisting of a Likert scale survey distributed …
