A total of 284 students at Ouachita Baptist University were named to the President’s List for the fall 2016 semester.

To be named to the President’s List, a student must compile a 4.0 grade point average and be classified as a full-time student, with a minimum of 12 academic hours.

Ouachita To Host 50th Anniversary Miss Obu Pageant Feb. 4, Sarah Davis, Ouachita News Bureau

Ouachita Baptist University will host the 50th anniversary Miss Ouachita Baptist University Pageant on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. Eight contestants will compete for the 2017 Miss OBU crown. Tickets are $12 each at the door.

The pageant is sponsored by Ouachita’s Student Senate and directed by alumna Becky Hartsfield. The winner of Miss OBU will compete in the Miss Arkansas Pageant and receive a $1,000 scholarship and other prizes.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will host “Dear Miss Day” and “Hollywood’s Golden Age” exhibits Jan. 30 through Feb. 24 featuring curated memorabilia from mid-20th century Hollywood. The two-part exhibit will be displayed in Moses-Provine Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery and is free and open to the public.

Cherry Davis, a Louisiana native and movie enthusiast, recently donated the collection of Doris Day and Hollywood memorabilia to Ouachita’s Department of Theatre Arts, in honor of her mother, a 1933 Ouachita graduate.

Ouachita Baptist University’s 2016 Ouachitonian yearbook earned an All-American ranking from the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) for the second consecutive year. The Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) also recognized the 2016 Ouachitonian as a Gold Medalist in its College Yearbook Critique. These are the highest awards given for yearbooks in the two organizations’ critiques.

Broadway performer Jacob Keith Watson, a 2011 Ouachita Baptist University graduate, will return to his alma mater Jan. 26-27 to perform a recital and lead a masterclass.

Watson will be accompanied by collaborative pianist Jason Weisinger, who has performed with the Boston POPS and is scheduled to perform in a workshop in conjunction with the Metropolitan Opera and Cincinnati Opera.

The Jan. 26 recital will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Ouachita’s McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $10 each, and the performance is open to the public.

Ouachita's Wind Ensemble Releases "Simple Gifts" Cd, Katie Smith

Ouachita Baptist University’s Wind Ensemble recently released a CD titled “Simple Gifts.” The CDs costs $15 and features the 2012 and 2016 Wind Ensembles.

The 2016 Wind Ensemble performs the CD’s title section “Simple Gifts: Four Shaker Songs” by Frank Ticheli, including “In Yonder Valley,” “Dance,” “Here Take This Lovely Flower” and “Simple Gifts.” Other selections performed by this ensemble are the “Mayflower Overture” by Ron Nelson and “A Sacred Suite” by Brant Karrick, which includes “Spirit of the Ages Fanfare,” “Consolation” and “True Happiness/How Firm a Foundation.”

Because information source types in advertising are dynamic and numerous, teaching Information Creation as a Process represents a critical part of information literacy education for students in advertising and marketing programs. Since these programs place great emphasis on career skills, addressing this frame should be situated within an awareness of professional practice. This chapter will look at how students struggle with the concept of Information Creation as a Process, give an overview of the advertising information landscape, and present progressive lesson plans with suggestions for possible assessments.

Adpr 221: Strategic Writing For Advertising And Public Relations—A Peer Review Of Teaching Benchmark Portfolio, Michael D. Hanus

The objective for this course portfolio was to document the changes implemented to a core advertising and public relations writing course. The portfolio outlines five proposed goals for the revised course: students should be able to write for an audience, give and receive quality feedback, prepare for novel situations in the workplace, see writing as rewarding, creative, and fun, and learn professional conventions and industry standards for strategic writing. The course was significantly restructured in order to better reach these goals on student assignments, activities, and during lectures.
