All oral histories
Dr. Susan Anderson-Freed began teaching in the Sociology Department at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1977. A few years later she was reappointed to a position in the Computer Science program where she remained until her departure in 2008.
Anderson-Freed left teaching due to the effects of cancer treatments she was receiving and died on November 4, 2012. A long-time knitting enthusiast, she used the time of her treatments to design patterns and published two books on the subjects. In order to promote environmental sustainability, the Unit 5 School District in McLean County, Illinois has recognized the need to increase recycling rates within the district. As a part of the efforts to encourage recycling in Unit 5 schools, this study considers the barriers that may prevent the effective implementation of environmental education programs in school curricula, as well as the elements that contribute to the success of these programs. Technology Integration In Secondary Mathematics Classrooms: Effect On Students’ Understanding, Megan Sheehan, Leah A. Nillas
Technology Integration In Secondary Mathematics Classrooms: Effect On Students’ Understanding, Megan Sheehan, Leah A. Nillas
Leah A. Nillas
Technology use in secondary mathematics courses has the potential to bring about broad changes in learning environment and teaching pedagogy, allowing students to communicate and collaborate in new ways and to conjecture, justify, and generalize findings. However, this potential is only realized when teachers use technology in ways encouraging these outcomes (Galbraith, 2006). The purpose of this study is to examine the integration of technology in secondary mathematics classrooms and to evaluate the effectiveness of its use in relation to students’ learning outcomes. This self study research was conducted in honors geometry and AP calculus classes. Data sources included transcripts …

The Feasibility Of Implementing Farm To School Programs In Bloomington-Normal Public Schools, Margaret Kane, '09
The Feasibility Of Implementing Farm To School Programs In Bloomington-Normal Public Schools, Margaret Kane, '09
Outstanding Senior Seminar Papers
Farm to School programs promote partnerships between local farmers and school districts in which farmers can provide fresh organic produce for school meals and education about sustainable agriculture. A focus on local and organic foods has a variety of benefits that affect the environmental, health, and community. This study explores opportunities for Farm to School programs in Bloomington-Normal public schools, and concludes that a this type of program would be feasible in Normal, although there are quite a few barriers to overcome before implementation would be possible.
