An Analysis Of Critical Incidents To Determine Effective And Ineffective Clinical Instructions, Nyrabella Fiedler Clague

It was the purpose of this survey to determine what constitutes effective and ineffective clinical instruction from the student's viewpoint, and to make the findings available. The descriptive survey method using the critical incident technique was used as the method of research. A critical incident report form was constructed as a tool for gathering the data. There were 117 students of nursing who submitted 166 incidents; 52 per cent were of effective instruction and 48 per cent of ineffective instruction.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate reasons for the choice of a first position by graduates from diploma programs in nursing. This included factors motivating the choice, the time of choice, and reasons for liking and disliking clinical areas. Questionnaires were mailed to 756 graduates of the class of 1961 from twenty-three representative schools. Approximately 46 percent were returned completed.
Major findings were as follows:
1. Reasons for choice of a first position rating a high percentage of total possible score on the rating scale were: to increase technical skill, 84.6 per cent; to continue learning, 81.6 …

Hospital nursing procedures are rapidly increasing in number and in complexity, keeping pace with the continuous advances being made in medical science. This, coupled with the fact that many nurses are resuming their careers after a period of professional inactivity, make it imperative that hospitals provide facilities for assisting nursing personnel in becoming acquainted with unfamiliar procedures. This study was conducted to find out to what extent the student load at the Paradise Valley School of Nursing was conductive to a well balance life and to make recommendations which might guide the faculty in curriculum planning.
The normative-survey was the method used to gather data from the faculty and students of the Paradise Valley School of Nursing. Interviews and two guide sheets were used to gather information from fourteen instructors regarding their course requirements and their estimates of balanced living for students. Teaching and maintenance of standards of nursing care are indeed a responsibility of the clinical instructor. If she is to do effective instruction of the student's clinical experience, she needs to know what factors are influencing the student's performance as a result of her presence.
The significance of the student's reactions to various educational experiences has been receiving increasing recognition during the last several years. This study was conducted to identify factors from nursing students' opinions concerning what clinical instructors do that influence effective student performance. Statement of the Problem: the purpose of this study was to find out the current faculty-student ratio in the medical-surgical area in collegiate school of nursing which were fully accredited by the National League for Nursing and the number of students with which instructors felt comfortable in their clinical instructions.
Method: the descriptive survey method with a questionnaire was used to collect data from the study. Eighty-six instructors returned the questionnaire.
Summary of Findings: most instructors were responsible for teaching more than one class level of students and were teaching in a hospital without segregated service. Forty-eight …
