B2: Presence Of Immunosuppressive Drugs Affect Innate Immune Response And Monocyte Differentiation In Lung Transplant Patients, Inayat Kaur Oms Iii, Ryan Wang Oms Ii, Amy E.L. Stone
Annual Research Symposium
Lung transplant patients are administered Immunosuppressive Drugs (ISDs) to prevent transplant rejection, but this also puts them at constant risk of infection due to the decreased ability of the immune system to respond to subsequent infections by viruses, bacteria etc.
Purpose
This paper focuses on the effect of ISDs on the innate immune response. We are using different parts of viruses and bacteria and allowing them to represent the organism as a whole.
Methods
As representatives of the innate immune system, we are going to be testing monocyte, macrophage, and dendritic cell lineages. We are hypothesizing that the presence of …

We’Re Both Your Librarian: A Course Collaboration Between An Academic Library And A Health Sciences Library, Stephanie Evers Ard
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
The University of South Alabama is in the process of merging its academic library and health sciences library, which have previously functioned as essentially separate entities. This ongoing process requires many changes, from budget and staff considerations, to revisiting the roles the librarians play in their respective academic communities. This last concern led to a collaboration between two librarians--the Assistant Director for Strategic Initiatives at the health sciences library and the Social Sciences and Student Engagement Librarian at the academic library--in response to a faculty request for an embedded librarian to support a fully-online graduate nursing class in scholarly writing. …

2024 Celebration of Community Engagement
Background: Andrews University’s administration acknowledges the university’s obligation to seek higher levels of community engagement. The relatively recent adoption of the motto—Seek knowledge, Affirm faith, Change the world—speaks to the intent of the organization to become an agent for positive change. Consequently, educators are encouraged to understand and support community engagement efforts to mold students into World Changers. It is with this backdrop that Andrews University embarked on a pilot project with the School of Nursing to see the effect of empathy development on a service-learning program at Benton Harbor High School.
Aim of Project: To determine the level of …

The Influence Of Nurse Image On The Future Of Nursing, Alexandra Armada
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Background: Nurse image as perceived by society is outdated, inaccurate, and leads to the lack of interest in pursuing the profession. Contributing factors to this lack of interest in nursing could be explored by researching what resources are available to prospective nurses.
Objectives: The purpose of this literature review is to explore the implications that current overall nurse image (NI) has on the future of the nursing profession, by analyzing existing resources available to prospective nurses.
Methods: This integrative literature review utilized the matrix method by Judith Garrard to organize and synthesize the data. A data comparison of the data …
