The general purpose of this study is to assess current status of first-aid and CPR certifications held by high school head athletic coaches in the state of West Virginia. A packet will be sent to the 160 high schools in West Virginia. The principal will randomly choose five head coaches, at least two females and two males, to fill out the survey which are to …
Influence Of Examiner Experience On Interrater Reliability Using The Kt2000 Knee Ligament Arthrometer, Michelle Ann Phelan
Influence Of Examiner Experience On Interrater Reliability Using The Kt2000 Knee Ligament Arthrometer, Michelle Ann Phelan
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The KT-2000 knee ligament arthrometer is frequently used by clinicians in determining the integrity of the anterior cruciate ligament. Researchers have questioned the reliability in using this device in reporting reliable results. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of examiner experience in using the K^T-2000 knee ligament arthrometer. Thirteen subjects (age=22-45) were recruited on a voluntary basis for this study. The KT-2000 knee ligament arthrometer was used to measure anterior-posrtior laxity for each patient. Results were measured at 15 and 20 pounds of force for right and left knees. A multiple linear regression ANOVA was used …

Examining Counseling Strategies For African American Adolescent Crack Abusers, Paula Reed Dorris
Graduate Research Papers
The author of this paper has addressed the significance of the development of treatment strategies to implement with African American adolescent crack addicts. Existential Mental Health Implications For Kin-Caregivers Of Alzheimer's Victims, Brock K. Knoll
Existential Mental Health Implications For Kin-Caregivers Of Alzheimer's Victims, Brock K. Knoll
Graduate Research Papers
The purpose of this paper is to briefly outline assessment and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in afflicted individuals (i.e., care recipients [CRs]) and review relevant research concerning the effects of AD progression on caregivers (CGs) as they care for loved ones. With this background, consideration will be made of how these findings suggest relevant tenets of Existential therapy. The author will also identify implications that could be meaningful to mental health professionals in their efforts to assist CGs as they attempt to cope with the emotional impact this disease has on them during caregiving and after the eventual death …

Schooling Opportunities For Girls As A Stimulus For Fertility Change In Rural Pakistan, Zeba Sathar, Cynthia B. Lloyd, Cem Mete, Minhaj Ul Haque
Schooling Opportunities For Girls As A Stimulus For Fertility Change In Rural Pakistan, Zeba Sathar, Cynthia B. Lloyd, Cem Mete, Minhaj Ul Haque
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
This paper tests Caldwell’s mass schooling hypothesis in the context of rural Pakistan. His hypothesis was that the onset of the fertility transition is closely linked to the achievement of “mass formal schooling” of boys and girls. Punjab and Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP) were selected for this study because they appear to be on the leading edge of the demographic transition-a transition that has only recently begun-as suggested by rapid recent increases in contraceptive practice. The study covered a range of rural villages or communities with very different socioeconomic and schooling conditions in order to examine the effects of both …

Graduate Research Papers
The last ten years have brought major advances in the fields of medicine and technology, advances that have illuminated many of the dark comers of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This article seeks to pull together those illuminating advances, condensing the voluminous information available into comprehensive, but readable, pages. The causes of the disorder are discussed from both the scientific and psychological/social perspectives. The controversy resulting from medicating so many, so young is an integral part of this country's interest in ADHD, due largely to coverage by the popular media.
Research concerning successful treatment strategies is also discussed. Medication, behavior …

This thesis discusses parental knowledge of their child's speech and language development. To assess this topic, a survey was administered to 104 parents of preschool children in Arkadelphia, AR. The survey asked general questions concerning speech and language development in children . Results revealed that parents, regardless of income level or education level, have minimal knowledge of speech and language development in their children. Parents with four or more children scored higher on the survey than parents with three fewer children. Implications for further studies are discussed.

Greater Investments In Children Through Women's Empowerment: A Key To Demographic Change In Pakistan?, Valerie L. Durrant, Zeba Sathar
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
Women’s status has received considerable attention as a significant factor in demographic behavior and outcomes in South Asia however, little research has addressed the links between women’s status and their investments in children. In this paper, we empirically investigate how women’s status on multiple levels is associated with demographic outcomes. Using data from the Pakistan Status of Women and Fertility Survey in rural Punjab, we confirm that empowered women, or those with higher status, are better able to make positive investments in their children, thus increasing their children’s chances of survival during infancy and increasing their likelihood of ever attending …

G207 is a multimutated, conditionally replicating herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) that is currently in clinical trial for patients with malignant glioma. G207 exhibits an efficient oncolytic activity in tumor cells, yet minimal toxicity in normal tissue when injected into the brains of HSV-susceptible mice or nonhuman primates. In this study, we evaluated the shedding and biodistribution of clinical-grade G207 after intracerebral inoculation (3 × 107 pfu) in four New World owl monkeys (Aotus nancymae). Using PCR analyses and viral cultures, neither infectious virus nor viral DNA was detected from tear, saliva, or vaginal secretion samples at any time …
