Development Of A Multivariate Poisson Hidden Markov Model For Application In Educational Data Mining, Shahab Boumi

Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-

Managers and policymakers in higher education institutions try to improve graduation rates and decrease halt rates. To achieve this goal, it is important to understand academic and demographic factors that correlate with academic performance. Many studies in the field of education analytics have identified student grade point averages (GPA) as an important indicator and predictor of final academic outcomes (graduating or halting their studies). While semester-to-semester fluctuations in GPA are considered normal, significant changes in academic performance may warrant more thorough investigation and consideration, particularly with regard to final academic outcomes. However, it is challenging to represent complex academic trajectories …

Effective Resource Utilization In Arkansas Public Schools, Ryan Sanders May 2018

Effective Resource Utilization In Arkansas Public Schools, Ryan Sanders

Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

Teacher pay in Arkansas public schools varies widely from district to district across the state. This pay discrepancy is driven by both the funds available to a district and by how these funds are allocated. There is a standard per student budget given to districts across the state, but this budget can be supplemented by additional property taxes collected on property within a district. This leaves districts with more highly valued property at an advantage. Districts are free to allocate their budget for teacher pay as they see fit, with constraints on number of students per teacher and minimum teacher …

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

Currently, most learning methods are based on classroom teaching through unidirectional communication using boards or slides. However, the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) asserts that the students can increase their performance if the instructors can provide the students with diversified information representation, expression, and engagement means. Although UDL minimizes the mismatch between the teaching and learning styles, we lack the detailed methods to implement the UDL and its associated multi-modal training methods in the context of air traffic control candidates and/or technical operators. We propose an approach that adapts the Index of Learning Styles (ILS) based on four categories: perception, …
