First Year Student Success Initiative: Academic Support Services Working Group Charge, Jeffrey E. Hecker

Student success is central to UMaine's mission, values, reputation and fiscal health. Improving first-year student success is a major focus for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs in 2018- 2019. On September 27, the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost launched the public phase of this initiative. The goal: to develop an integrated plan of actions that will result in improved first year student success as defined by first year retention.
Charge to Academic Support Services: Develop a set of recommendations about ways that our student academic support services can better serve first year students.

The calendar is creeping closer to Oct. 31 and the privileged cries of not understanding the impact of Halloween costumes incorporating blackface has hit the airwaves once more. This time, Megyn Kelly, former host of “Megyn Kelly Today” on NBC, sparked this discussion when she defended the use of blackface for costumes on national television.

Lost & Found is a game series, created at the Initiative for
Religion, Culture, and Policy at the Rochester Institute of
Technology MAGIC Center.1 The series teaches medieval
religious legal systems. This article uses the first two games
of the series as a case study to explore a particular set of
processes to conceive, design, and develop games for learning.
It includes the background leading to the author's work
in games and teaching religion, and the specific context for
