Statistics Canada offers yearly regional training to post secondary institutions who are participating members of the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI). Library personnel who act as DLI delegates for their institutions learn how to gain access to statistics and data products and disseminate this information to researchers. This conference presentation focuses on Fanshawe College, the first Ontario college to join the DLI in 2008.

Students of Ouachita Baptist University’s Patterson School of Natural Sciences presented and were recognized at the recent Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) conference in Fayetteville, Ark. Out of the 191 registered student presenters, 26 students were from OBU and three Ouachita students received honorable mentions for their work.

Academic research often does not find its way into the policy arena because of the nature of the work. Policymakers often find journal articles and academic books too long, difficult to understand, and lacking in policy-relevant ideas and recommendations. This article provides suggestions to academic and other researchers on how to make their research policy relevant and most likely to have an impact on policy and practice.

In this essay, we explore the importance of state financial aid programs for both states and the students they serve. Effective state financial aid policy benefits from rigorous research that engages partners from a variety of roles, such as state agencies, legislative staff, and intermediary organizations. It also benefits from the engagement of financial aid professionals. This essay supports the key role played by each of these stakeholders in the execution and dissemination of research projects related to state aid programs.

Pope Francis’ writing of both Evangelii Gaudium (Joy of the Gospel) and Laudato Si’ (On Care For Our Common Home) has led several in the popular press to comment on the Pope’s distrust of capitalism. Here, the pope’s commentary is reconciled with the American perspective on capitalism. Consumer sovereignty and corporate governance, carried out in accordance with the three pillars of Catholic Social Justice of human dignity, solidarity and subsidiarity, can fulfill the Pope’s mandate in Evangelii Gaudium.

The topic of this panel is “Teaching and Research Directions for Business and MIS Programs”. Higher education in the US is transforming and evolving rapidly. Declining state budget for public schools means that tuition fees may have to be correspondingly increase. The state funding is down by around 40% compared to fiscal 1980. In fact, it is headed for zero! The cost of higher education has surged more than 500% since 1985. Rising costs of higher education means Americans owe nearly $1.3 trillion in student loan debt.
