As the feature by David Lynch on page 26 discovers, the forum served as an energy booster and supportive venture. And although the conference ended two months ago, these women remain enthusiastic. They’ve continued the struggle for change. Here is a look at the outcome — the fledgling results. This is what Lynch, who lived in China for six years, tried to focus on.

A global networking took place in China, with women exchanging ad dresses and phone …

Intrinsic Motivation For Learning Of The Adult Graduate Student At Western Michigan University, Phyllis Crandall Dec 1995

Intrinsic Motivation For Learning Of The Adult Graduate Student At Western Michigan University, Phyllis Crandall

Dissertations

The perceptions of adult graduate students concerning barriers to the educational process and their levels of motivation for pursuing a graduate degree were investigated. The established motivational theory first expressed by Abram Maslow in 1954 was used in defining the first variable of motivation to learning when pertaining to the healthy self-actualized individual. The second variable chosen was a listing of student perceived barriers to the educational process as defined by H. G. Schulze in 1987. It was hypothesized that the higher the level of the barriers overcome per Schutze's scale, the higher the level of intrinsic motivation in the …

A Personal Approach To Counseling, Four Techniques Of Therapy, & Brief Therapy And Counseling, Charles William Hollis Dec 1995

A Personal Approach To Counseling, Four Techniques Of Therapy, & Brief Therapy And Counseling, Charles William Hollis

Graduate Theses

The field of counseling is a rapidly changing profession, and counselors, both new and old must learn to adapt to these changes. The counselor should decide on and maintain a basic theory of counseling, and yet not allow that theory to be so rigid that it fails to use some of the benefits from other theories when applicable. The counselor should learn to look at all sides of an issue before deciding what stand to take on that issue, and the stand should be one that inevitably is aimed at his/her enhancement as a counselor.

Cognitive Effects Of Community Colleges And Four-Year Colleges: Further Evidence From The National Study Of Student Learning., Ernest Pascarella, Marcia Edison, Amaury Nora, Linda S. Hagedorn, Patrick Terenzini

Linda Serra Hagedorn

The two-year community college has become one of the major institutional configurations in the American postsecondary system. It has undoubtedly increased both the access to higher education and the social mobility of numerous individuals whose education world otherwise have ended with high school (Cohen & Brawer, 1989; Nunley & Breneman, 1988). However, critiques of the community college posit that, although it may largely guarantee equality of opportunity for access to higher education, it has not, in relationship to four-year colleges and universities, provided equal opportunity in terms of the outcomes or benefits of higher education (Brint & Karabel, 1989; Grubb, …
