Libraries often face challenges when launching new services and integrating new applications with existing systems. Universal problems in the library world include not only technical issues but also the need for cooperation and working relationships both within the library and outside of the library. Last August XXX University Libraries completed our initial roll out of SIPX, a new electronic reserves system which is a cloud based product created by Stanford University. Although both the military and fraternities have been theorized to be characterized by
norms and attitudes that serve to legitimize violence against women, no previous work has
examined the potential similarity and differences in rape-supportive beliefs of these 2
environments or the people drawn to them. Further, the belief systems of women within
these organizations have received little attention. As such, the current study sought to serve
as an initial exploration of the rape-supportive belief systems of people drawn to these

Members of the first cohort (2014) of the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) Assessment in Action (AiA) learning community share the impact of the AiA program on library and university assessment initiatives. This article shares brief examples of effective and challenging cross-campus collaborative assessment projects and the five best practices the authors developed through the year-long experience of examining student success in three different academic library environments.

Using a data set that augments a student survey with administrative data from the Iowa State University Office of Financial Aid, the authors posed two questions: Do students know whether they have student loans? Do students know how much they owe on outstanding student loans? We used logistic and ordered logit regressions to answer these questions. Results suggest that although the majority of students are aware that they owe on student loans, many underestimate the amount they owe. One eighth of students in the current study reported no student debt when, in fact, they had a loan. Over a quarter …

While discussion on faculty development in China has been increasing in recent years, our understanding of the strategy for the development remains limited. Th is study with a survey aimed to examine whether e-learning could meet faculty members’ expectations for their professional development. Our findings suggest that e-learning is identified as a preferred means of opening new opportunities to meet the needs of faculty in China where faculty development still remains traditional training and it has bright prospects. Makira Island in the Solomon Islands has a population of over 41,000 people, which in 2013 was serviced by one doctor, who worked in the hospital and travelled to remote sites, supported by highly-skilled nursing staff. The capital Kira Kira is a very impoverished community with no formal governance structure, poor infrastructure and a large variety of public health issues that lead to fascinating medicine. The purpose of this study was to assess the results of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I football team in terms of male student-athletes’ (N = 78) perceptions of identity development and the athletic career transition process in the context of student engagement research literature in higher education. Previous research with the Life After Sports Scale (LASS) (Harrison & Lawrence, 2002, 2003, 2004; Lawrence & Harrison, 2011), a 58-item mixed method inventory, has focused on the Division II male and female student-athlete experience. Background: Much has been written about Black undergraduate men’s out-of-class engagement and social experiences, identity development, participation in intercollegiate athletics, and college enrollment and completion rates. Too little is known about their academic readiness and first-year college adjustment.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand Black male students’ academic transition experiences in the first college year, with a particular emphasis on how they resolved academic challenges with which they were confronted.

Understanding The Meaning-Making Processes Of Hispanic College Students In Their Spiritual And Religious Development., Roland Nunez, John D. Foubert

This study used narrative inquiry to understand what spirituality
and religiosity meant to Hispanic students attending a large,
Midwestern university in the United States. The study consisted
of interviews with 10 Hispanic students who discussed their
spiritual and religious beliefs from childhood through college.
Findings supported current literature that spirituality increases
and religiosity decreases during college. However, after an
initial decline in religiosity during the first year of college,
participants reported a noteworthy increase shortly after
college began. Secondly, students’ spiritual and religious beliefs
were closely tied to their family, supporting research on familial
centrality in Hispanic culture.

This qualitative study contributes an original holistic understanding of the perceptions and experiences of non-Black students (e.g., Asian American, Latino, and White) as they matriculate into historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), persist to graduation, and reflect on their experiences as graduates at HBCUs. Findings from this study confirm, challenge, and extend existing research regarding the preenrollment experience, institutional experience, and culminating outcomes of non-Black students enrolled in HBCUs. Implications are offered for researchers, practitioners, and current and future non-Black HBCU students.

The apolitical nature of the civic engagement movement poses challenges to our 
democracy (Saltmarsh & Hartley, 2011). The co-curricular experience is well positioned to 
address this phenomenon but little research exists to inform practice. This qualitative study 
uncovers how the socialization of senior student affairs officers (SSAO) influences 
approaches to student civic/political development. Implications for practice and future 
research are presented based on the findings from the study.
