WGS 201 Wonder Woman: Sheroe, Amazon Princess, Feminist Icon In this course, we will delve into the politics and secret history of one of the most popular feminist icons and symbols of female power: Wonder Woman. A central theme of the course is the social construction of feminine power; the role of pop culture and the media in shaping this and how iconic representations of power translate off the page into the "real world." This project highlights the experience of teaching Quran as a literature through MODL 298: “Women in Quran”. This course is an attempt to read Quran as a diachronically approached literature and discover what would the analytic, linguistic as well as the critical study of both the Qur’anic text and its exegesis reveal when it comes to feminism and gender issues in Islam.

What happens to feminism in the university is parallel to what happens to feminism in other venues under economic restructuring: while the impoverished nation is forced to cut social services and thereby send women back to the hierarchy of the family, the academy likewise reduces its footprint in interdisciplinary structures and contains academic feminists back to the hierarchy of departments and disciplines.
