Teaching And Learning School Improvement Framework, Geoff N. Masters
Teaching And Learning School Improvement Framework, Geoff N. Masters
Monitoring Learning
The Teaching and Learning School Improvement Framework brings together findings from research into the practices of highly effective school leaders. The focus of the Framework is not on everything that effective leaders do, but on those leadership practices that appear to be most directly related to school-wide improvements in teaching and learning. The Framework was developed initially in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Education and Training and was used as the basis for a teaching and learning ‘audit’ of every government school in that state during the 2010 school year. The Framework consists of eight interrelated ‘domains’. Each domain …

Student Perceptions Of Interactive Whiteboards And Effects On Academic Achievement In A Fourth Grade Language Arts Classroom, Everett B. Burke
Master of Education Research Theses
This is a mixed study on technology in the educational setting about student perceptions of interactive whiteboards (IWB) and if there are measurable effects of the IWB's on student performance. This was a within subject design with a counterbalancing of order study set in a fourth grade classroom and lasted for a period of four weeks. In keeping with a true counterbalance study one group was exposed to instruction with heavy emphasis on the use of an interactive white board. Concurrently another group was exposed to instruction of the same material through more traditional technology including an overhead projector, dry-erase …

Baby Boomer And Genx Elementary Principals : Differing Perspectives On Schooling, Lisa M. Fry
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Studies on generational analysis inform us that each generation is shaped by the influences they share during their formative years. The common experiences and historical circumstances experienced during this time influences their generational identity and results in a world view that is unique to that generation. This world view and generational identity impacts their belief system and practices as they emerge as leaders in mid-life.
While the current structures and policies that guide today's educational system were established by the Baby Boomer generation, we could see significant changes as the Baby Boomer behemoth begins to leave the workforce. Around the …

Pennsylvania Superintendent-Preparation: How Has It Changed?, Sue A. King
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
The purpose for this study was to add to the research on school administrator preparation programs by examining and describing the content, structure, and overall design of university preparation programs in Pennsylvania for school superintendents to determine the degree to which the programs of the 26 state-approved providers of superintendent certification are reflective of the current research and theory regarding effective school district leadership, particularly instructional leadership. At a time when public education is under fire from political leaders and the general public, school administrators are expected to design and manage education systems that meet the needs of all learners …

ABSTRACT
Historically, it has always been important for educators to meet the needs of their children. In practice however, children with special needs were often neglected in the educational processes of schools. With the advent of NCLB and high stakes testing, the pressure on schools to demonstrate improved student achievement for all students has accelerated. As these children have been increasingly included within the regular classroom, educators have been challenged to develop methods to effectively meet their needs.
This concurrent nested mixed method study explored the effect of interdisciplinary thematic instruction using constructivist principles on the motivation and performance of …
Urban School Reform And The Strange Attractor Of Low-Risk Relationships, Brian R. Beabout
Urban School Reform And The Strange Attractor Of Low-Risk Relationships, Brian R. Beabout
Brian R. Beabout
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, school leaders in a newly decentralized school system reached out to external organizations for partnerships—a job that had previously resided in the central office. The necessity of these contacts and the quantity of newly independent schools make a unique context for studying how school leaders think and act in relation to external partnerships. Iterative interviews with 10 New Orleans public school principals reveal a range of external partnerships that can be classified into a three part taxonomy consisting of charitable relationships, technical support relationships, and feedback relationships. A discussion of low-risk relationships …
