Nowadays, many games are made for educational or learning purposes. However, the unresolved challenge remains, and the perfect balance between the fun and learning aspects remains. This paper represents an effort toward such a challenge by way of game difficulty dynamization implementation in a game to improve preschoolers reading skills using Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment dan Procedural Content Generation. To measure the balance of fun and learning aspects in the game, experiments were conducted involving 32 preschoolers. The proposed game can generate 10.962 game content in various difficulties and balance the fun and learning aspects according to the enjoyment factor's average …

Student attendance is a system used for tracking student activity in school. Many methods are used to develop student attendance systems, such as Quick Response (QR) Code systems, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, fingerprint systems, and so on. The COVID-19 pandemic has driven technological development, especially in the student attendance system. Measuring human surface body temperature has become a protocol that must be done before entering school. Student attendance systems need to expand the function not only for attendance but also for monitoring student surface body temperature. This research aims to improve student attendance systems by adding surface body temperature …

This study aims to explain the development of adaptive MOOCs that support personalized learning. This study was designed with a mixed method design of sequential explanatory type at the association level. Quantitative analysis used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) (n = 110) and was deepened with qualitative analysis of the Miles and Huberman model. Quantitatively measured domains include accessibility, learning curriculum, competence, motivation, satisfaction, efficacy, and self-study. The domain was used as a reference for qualitative data mining through focus group discussions (FGD) involving lecturers and doctoral students (n = 25). The analysis results show that the curriculum domain and one …

Self-Regulated Learning is a method of learning in which a learner sets goals, controls and manages his learning as well as evaluating himself. Despite numerous benefits of utilization of technology-oriented strategies for learning, studies have shown that the adoptions are often poorly adopted for use. The objectives of this study therefore were to investigate undergraduate students’ utilization of technologies for SRL; and influence of gender, academic level; and school proprietorship on the utilization of technologies for SRL. This study adopted the descriptive design of quantitative survey type. The sample comprised 389 respondents across federal, state and private universities in Kwara …

Journal of English Learner Education
The fast development of technology and the new generation of highly computer literate students led to consider the integration of technology in school as essential. Throughout the last two decades, research has identified multiple factors leading to the successful and unsuccessful integration of technology in the classroom. Educators must consider these factors when deciding on which technology tools to use and how to integrate them to their lessons. Simultaneously, the increasing number of English learners in the United States calls for the identification of teaching strategies that will best support their needs. Many language teachers now rely on teaching techniques …

Nursing Students’ Perceptions Of Using Branching Simulation: A Qualitative Descriptive Study, Mohammad Rababa, Dania Bani-Hamad, Shatha Al-Sabbah
The Qualitative Report
Previous intervention studies have shown that branching simulation (BS) unfolds the complex multidimensional aspects of challenging health problems. The present study aimed to examine graduate nursing students’ perceptions of using BS in professional training. This study used a qualitative descriptive design with semi-structured interviews with a sample of 20 graduate nursing students. Four main themes emerged from the results: (a) BS as a support to students’ professional training, (b) BS leads to changes in clinical practice, (c) whether BS is a stressful learning experience, and (d) BS versus traditional lecturing. The participating students perceived BS as a valid learning tool …

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
The purpose of this study was to investigate metacognitive self-regulated learning (SRL) differences in computer- and paper-based reading assignments across elementary students. Students in two after-school programs in a southeastern U.S. public school district were recruited. The final sample consisted of 48 students in Grades 2–5 who participated in two counterbalanced conditions involving a computer- and a paper-based reading assignment. The study employed a 2 x 4 (condition-by-grade) mixed-model analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followup tests to examine metacognitive SRL differences between conditions and grades. The results indicate that elementary students used various metacognitive SRL skills across both conditions. The …

Imposter Participants: Overcoming Methodological Challenges Related To Balancing Participant Privacy With Data Quality When Using Online Recruitment And Data Collection, Jacqueline M. Roehl Phd, Darci J. Harland Phd
The Qualitative Report
In this paper we describe the lessons learned when untrustworthy participants were included in a qualitative interview study. In online research, participants can more easily misrepresent their identity and volunteer for studies even if they do not meet inclusion criteria. The term “imposter participant” refers to dishonest participants who completely fake their identities or simply exaggerate their experiences in order to participate in qualitative studies. Untrustworthy participants are a threat to data quality, yet little has been published on how qualitative researchers should prevent and handle this unique methodological challenge. In this paper, we provide a detailed account of how …

Not All Competitions Are The Same: Digital Game-Based Learning Environments That Incorporate Competition Facilitates Students' Learning Motivation, Yong Zeng, John E. Mceneaney
Journal of Research Initiatives
This text presents an argument that competition, as a pedagogical design element, facilitates students’ learning motivation in digital game-based learning environments (DGBLEs). Since competition has long been regarded as an adverse pedagogical element for fostering students’ learning motivation, a considerable proportion of educators and researchers in the U.S. have a variety of concerns about implementing competition in educational practices. However, the function of competition in DGBLEs could be fundamentally different. By reviewing major concerns about competition, this text refutes two major concerns about competition and claims that DGBLEs that incorporate competition facilitate students' learning motivation
