If a clear-cut relationship between weather phenomena and human behavior could be established, the case for controlled atmosphere in industry, commerce, and education would be strengthened. In the area of education, classroom procedures and learning tasks could be varied in accordance with the weather. The present study will attempt to produce verbal conditioning in a carefully controlled experimental situation and to investigate its generalization to a similar activity. The purpose is then two-fold: (1) to obtain a measure of verbal conditioning, and (2) to investigate whether there is a relationship between increased verbal response (verbal conditioning) and a related type of behavior.

This study compared the differences in perceptual development found between (1) normal readers and disabled readers, and (2) Indian children of a reservation cultural background and non-Indian children. Subjects were fifty-three children of both Indian and non-Indian backgrounds ranging from the second to the fourth grades at White Swan Grade School.

The present study was concerned with the effects of supplementary televised demonstrations on achievement in general psychology. Previous research has established television as an effective instructional medium for many fields of study. The conclusions of research utilizing televised programs as instructional supplements have been equivocal however, with some studies lending support to the use of supplementary programs, and some showing their effects to be negligible. The present study was designed in view of the lack of research investigating the relationship of televised supplements to general psychology.

The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the method of teaching a "How to Study" class in helping students more adequately meet their reading needs.

Research was conducted to test the reading gains made by students in the program with respect to ability and group size. The results indicate that group size had the greatest effect as to changes in reading behavior.

Instruction was based on diagnosing student needs. It was shown that a significant number of students who decreased in rate of reading, increased in comprehension. The same diagnostic principle was observed for those …

This study was designed to investigate more completely the variable of achievement effort (effort in school) as related to self rating, teacher rating, student self concept, actual achievement, and sex differences.

A group of 198 sixth grade students were used as the experimental subjects. Five sets of data were obtained on the students: (a) students' self ratings on an achievement effort rating scale, (b) teachers' ratings of their students on the same achievement effort rating scale, (c) students' scores on a self concept scale, (d) students' performances on an achievement test, and (e) students' performances on an intelligence test. A group of fifty-one kindergarten children (23 boys and 28 girls) from Central School in Hoquiam, Washington, were studied for the purpose of evaluating changes occurring during the school year in terms of readiness and academic growth. A series of tests were given in October and November as an inventory of the child's background of skills and readiness in the fall, and the tests were repeated in May to measure any change occurring during the school year.

This experiment was designed to extinguish a sixth grade boy's undesirable classroom behaviors by the complete withdrawal of teacher attention, and to develop and increase in successive approximations, the child's desirable classroom behaviors by frequent and intermittent teacher attention. The study was meant to be: (a) research replicating numerous other similar studies, but in addition be a behavior modification experiment conducted in a regular classroom setting in an elementary school and in as practical a way as possible for a teacher with 30 students, and (b) a response to a request from the boy's teachers for service and help.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between anxiety and achievement, and anxiety level and sex. The anxiety level was measured by the Institute for Personality and Ability Testing (IPAT) Anxiety Scale Questionnaire. The purposes of this study were: (1) to compare nine groups of subjects composed of intellectually normal children, mentally retarded adolescents, and mentally retarded adults on a three dimensional concept formation task; (2) to determine the effects of discrimination training on the sortings of the nine groups on the experimental task.
