This session describes both the reasons for and the process of designing and delivering a Research Methods Module using a Problem-based Learning (PBL) approach in a Postgraduate Diploma in Third Level Learning and Teaching at a higher education institute in Ireland. The students who undertake this part-time Module are cohorts of academic staff (Faculty Members) in Higher Education (HE). They are hitherto referred to as participants. This paper describes the design and delivery of a specialised Online Learning (OL) module in a Postgraduate Diploma in Third Level Learning and Teaching for academic staff at a higher education institute in Ireland. The purpose of this project is to determine the perceptions of the yearlong internship by Interns and Mentors in the Central Washington University Masters/Certification Program (1997-2000) at the Wenatchee Center. To accomplish this purpose, questionnaires were sent to all Interns and Mentors of Central Washington University Masters/Certification pilot Program at the Wenatchee Center. Additionally, related information from selected sources was obtained and analyzed.

This paper describes the design and implementation of a computer‐assisted learning tool to support the learning environment provided for postgraduate students following courses in Information Technology. The tool is called ‘ICITT’ — an acronym for Interactive Computerized Information Technology Tutor. The paper presents the unique aspects of this tool and the overall educational benefits of the system are briefly discussed.

This study investigated the use of a computerized tutorial--Self-Test and Review (STAR)--in a computer-managed general psychology course. STAR consists of four major modules which provide the student with a variety of learning exercises, including practice quizzes, practice final exams, performance reviews, and structured study questions. The purpose of the study was to determine whether students would choose STAR as a study tool, the effect of lecture versus self-paced settings on the use of STAR, whether students who used STAR would perform better than those who did not, and the effect of the timing of feedback in STAR on performance.
