A Study Of One Group's Experience Of The Advisement Process At Bank Street College, Marianne Montero

This study describes and analyzes the Advisement Process as experienced by eight members of one advisement group. Most of the data is based on interviews with the students and the advisor of the group. Particular emphasis is given to mental health concepts that are applicable to Advisement.

Also discussed are the philosophy and goals that five of these students have for the children they teacher and how they strive to apply these.

Of the seven students interviewed, six felt that advisement was effective for them. One person did not.

The purpose of this study was to make a comparison of personality variables between four essential dimensions of classroom climate. Creativity, Dynamism, Organized Demeanor, and Warmth and Acceptance were examined, with specific attention given to the relationship between Creativity and Organized Demeanor. The Tuckman Teacher Feedback Form, an instrument designed to measure these variables, was selected and implemented in this study. One hundred and eighteen teachers teaching in grade level positions that ranged from Kindergarten through the twelfth grade, were administered the Tuckman instrument during their annual evaluation period by their building administrators. Student progress toward an educational goal can be enhanced by the use of a curriculum containing both assessment and instruction. This project is such a curriculum based on the linear measurement items of the Brigance Inventory of Essential Skills. The careful sequencing and prevocational nature of this curriculum, along with its record-keeping forms, make it especially useful for special education. It is also available as a data disk for use with Apple microcomputers.

A Creation Of Pedagogical Children's Literature That Addresses Sexual Abuse And Child Abuse In A Bilingual Format, Karen J. Hernandez

The purpose was to create a series of stories for children that deal with sexual and child abuse. The stories were written in Spanish and English. Special attention was given to make them relative to the Hispanic culture. Background research supported the existence of sexual and child abuse. Symptoms were listed and the rights and responsibilities of teachers to report suspected cases were identified. The use of creative fiction and bibliotherapy was suggested for prevention programs in an elementary curriculum.

This curriculum was developed to assist elementary school teachers in the intermediate grades in the use of storytelling activities in the classroom. It is divided into four sections. The first two sections are addressed to the needs of the elementary students; they include activities that enhance the learning of reading, and activities that will enable the student to become a storyteller. The last two sections are directed to the elementary school teacher; they include various methods and ways for the teacher to become a successful storyteller. The intention of this independent professional project is to present a way in which phrasal verbs can be taught communicatively. Included in it are five lesson plans which clearly illustrate ways in which this can be done. A grammatical analysis is also included as it is felt that students need to know some of the rules governing phrasal verbs to be able to use them correctly and effectively. This thesis documents a business writing course taught in an in­company progamme in Japan from September to December 1985. Each student's writing is based upon his own individual working situation and experience. The true nature of this work is to show that integration of visual art is taking place in the Illinois High Schools. This conclusion is the result of a survey sent out to a group of Illinois High Schools. The results show that the Central and Southern Illinois High Schools have more integration of academic subjects incorporated in their curriculum compared to Northern Illinois High Schools. Yet integration of other art subjects are taught more in the Northern Illinois High Schools then the Central or Southern Illinois High Schools.
