The main purpose of the study was threefold in nature: first to establish tentative norms for this inventory at this institution; second, to explore the use of this instrument as a possible base for grouping; and third, to determine whether or not the use of a tape recorder would be of help to the classroom teacher in administering and scoring the informal reading inventory.

This study was conducted with a group of first grade children to ascertain the value of the SRA Reading Laboratory I-a when used as a supplement to the basic reading program. Comparisons were made with another group of first grade children who used an informal reading program as a supplement to the basic reading program.

The purposes of this study were (1) to determine the attitudes and opinions of Okanogan, Yakima, and Kittitas county elementary teachers toward the value of reading workbooks in the reading program: (2) to determine the extent to which workbooks are utilized in the reading program of these counties; (3) to show the relation of the attitudes and opinions of teachers concerning the use of workbooks in the reading program to such factors as the teachers’ sex, years of experience, school enrollment, and grade level taught; (4) to make recommendations to schools of these counties concerning the use of workbooks in …
