The Power Of Music: Song Serves As An Effective Recall Cue In Children, Tanisha Dews

Song, in some cases, can facilitate learning and recall. The experiments in this thesis demonstrate that information is better recalled when it is heard as a song rather than as speech or through lecture. This study further proves that when a combination of song and speech are taught to children, the retrieval of information is even greater. When the group of the second condition was tested, they were more successful in recalling the information learned. This study also recognizes that song can infuse difficulty due to music's rich structure and makeup of rhythm, tempo, and stress patterns. The overall paper …

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: Considering The Impact Of Educational Institutions And Teacher Perceptions, Cynthia S. Glass

This research examines teacher perceptions about the nature of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ("ADHD") and the teaching strategies used to work with students who display ADHD behaviors. It also examines the relationship between classroom size and perception of incidence of ADHD within the classroom.
Results indicate that older and more experienced teachers are more flexible than younger, less experienced teachers in their teaching strategies when working with students who display ADHD behaviors. Teachers who received information about ADHD from their school administration utilized flexible methods more often than those who did not receive information. After years of uncertainty, there is now widespread interest in the emotionally disturbed child in the schools. This change suggests that educators now see the disturbed child as an exceptional child, a handicapped child in need of special attention and assistance.
While the delineation of responsibility between school, home, and mental health agency is not yet well defined, it is as if the schools are now saying, "We are not quite clear about what other agencies intend to do, but we intend to do whatever seems appropriate and feasible in the school setting."
