Cross-Cultural Perspectives Of Knowledge Sharing For Different Virtual Classroom Environments: A Case Study Of Thai Students In Thai And Australian Universities, N Thongprasert, J M. Cross
Cross-Cultural Perspectives Of Knowledge Sharing For Different Virtual Classroom Environments: A Case Study Of Thai Students In Thai And Australian Universities, N Thongprasert, J M. Cross
EDU-COM International Conference
Collaborative learning has been accepted as an effective learning style that can enhance students‘ and instructors‘ ability to create knowledge and develop understanding. To enhance an effective collaboration learning environment needs the sharing of similar knowledge, background and experience through information communication technologies (ICT). There are a number of ways in which culture influences the use of these information technologies. The cultural characteristics, which can be viewed as the influencing factors on knowledge sharing in a virtual classroom, are power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism and collectivism. The main purpose of this study was to investigate how the differences in cultural …
Teaching Sustainable Stormwater Management Using Project Based Learning, Niranjali Jayasuriya
Teaching Sustainable Stormwater Management Using Project Based Learning, Niranjali Jayasuriya
EDU-COM International Conference
Project Based Learning (PBL) is increasingly becoming popular as a teaching aid in many universities across Australia. The theory associated with the Stormwater Management course is taught to students by solving practical problems associated with real life situations. Persistent drought has resulted in treating stormwater as a valuable resource when securing sustainable water futures for capital cities across Australia; including Melbourne. Based on feedback from potential employers of Civil and Environmental Engineering graduates the Stormwater Management course at RMIT University was reorganized to be structured around a major stormwater project to facilitate learning. The project involves arrangements to manage stormwater …
The Development Of An Adaptive Model Of Competence For The Electronics Industry In Thailand, Wisuit Sunthonkanokpong, Kalayanee Jitgarun, Weerachai Chaokumnerd
The Development Of An Adaptive Model Of Competence For The Electronics Industry In Thailand, Wisuit Sunthonkanokpong, Kalayanee Jitgarun, Weerachai Chaokumnerd
EDU-COM International Conference
The purpose of this research was to develop an adaptive model of competency development for the electronics industry in Thailand. The study involved a questionnaire, interviews and observations. Eighty nine individuals completed the questionnaire. Interviews were conducted with 10 managers with high experience in competency development from five renowned companies which practiced competency development. Observation was conducted in the five companies. Our adaptive model consists of the following elements: (1) five electronics competency levels which can be compared to Thailand Vocational Qualification, (2) competencies development, and (3) a training model. The training model was composed of a training program, training …
Secondary Students' Perceptions Of Web-Based Learning, Michael K. Barbour
Secondary Students' Perceptions Of Web-Based Learning, Michael K. Barbour
Education Faculty Publications
This article presents the results of a survey study of secondary students' perceptions of useful and challenging characteristics of Web-based learning environments. Data were collected using a modified version of a questionnaire from earlier studies. More specifically, the author focuses on what Web-based learning looks like for secondary students, along with their perceptions of the benefits, challenges, and helpful components of Web-based learning environments. As this study utilized similar instruments to earlier studies that looked at the perceptions of postsecondary students and corporate Web-based trainees, comparisons will be made between the secondary students in this study and the populations in …

Patterns For Active E-Learning In Cms Environments, Atanas Radenski
Patterns For Active E-Learning In Cms Environments, Atanas Radenski
Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research
The proliferation of course management systems (CMS) in the last decade stimulated educators in establishing novel active e-learning practices. Only a few of these practices, however, have been systematically described and published as pedagogic patterns. The lack of formal patterns is an obstacle to the systematic reuse of beneficial active e-learning experiences. This paper aims to partially fill the void by offering a collection of active e-learning patterns that are derived from our continuous course design experience in standard CMS environments, such as Moodle and Black-board. Our technical focus is on active e-learning patterns that can boost student interest in …
A Global Perspective On Andragogy: An Update, John A. Henschke Edd
A Global Perspective On Andragogy: An Update, John A. Henschke Edd
IACE Hall of Fame Repository
Andragogy has received mixed reviews in the past. Some have analyzed in from a positive perspective. Some have analyzed it from a negative perspective, and some have ignored it altogether. Most of the discussions have limited their observations to how Malcolm S. Knowles addressed andragogy. There has been an inadequate investigation of the foundation and background of andragogy from a world perspective. This research presents 240 major works published in English from national and international sources on andragogy that may help provide a clear and understandable international foundation for the linkage between the research, theory, and practice of andragogy. Six …
Reflections On Experiences Of Learning With Malcolm Shepherd Knowles, John A. Henschke Edd
Reflections On Experiences Of Learning With Malcolm Shepherd Knowles, John A. Henschke Edd
IACE Hall of Fame Repository
Malcolm S. Knowles stands as a giant catalyst at the juncture - past, present, and future - of andragogy (the art and science of helping adults learn) within the field of Adult Education and Human Resource Development. For more than 50 years until his death in 1997, Malcolm devoted his personal and professional life to exemplifying the theory and practice of andragogy: as a speaker to audiences of 10,000 or less; as a university professor with a multiplicity of adult learners (his students); as a consultant to numerous institutions and corporations in countries around the world; as a writer of …

Comparing The American And European Perspectives On The International Concept Of Andragogy And The Implications For The Development Of Adult Education Theory And Practice, John A. Henschke Edd
IACE Hall of Fame Repository
In this research paper we present a thorough picture of both the American and European perspectives on andragogy. We believe this to be much needed in the ongoing development of what many erroneously consider a static concept.

Measuring Students Perceptions Of Blackboard Using The Technology Acceptance Model: A Pls Approach, Leila Halawi, Richard Mccarthy
Measuring Students Perceptions Of Blackboard Using The Technology Acceptance Model: A Pls Approach, Leila Halawi, Richard Mccarthy
Publications
In this study, partial least square approach (PLS) is applied to investigate the determinants of students’ perceived usage results in the framework of university online or hybrid courses. A total of 134 valid responses from students who have finished or are currently enrolled in at least one online or hybrid course at two universities were employed to inspect the structural model. Using a structure that is in theory grounded in the technology acceptance model (TAM) and tested through TAM, the analysis of results suggest that separate factors guide the students’ usage choice.
