By the year 2030 Texas will have a shortage of 33,500 Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN). The LVN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate and focused nursing care to assigned patients with predictable health care needs. Most LVNS work in settings caring for our ever increasing and aged population. To combat the coming shortage VN programs need to graduate safe, competent, and compassionate nurses, but programs across the state are experiencing high student attrition rates. ABSTRACT:

Introduction

Oral case presentations (OP) provide an opportunity for medical students to practice clinical reasoning and communication skills, and for faculty to provide assessment. Specific teaching strategies are needed to improve students’ OP skills.

Objective

To compare the effectiveness of Virtual Coaching (VC) to Small Group (SG) discussion or Traditional Feedback (TF/control) in improving clinical reasoning during OP, using a validated PBEAR (Problem Representation, Background Evidence, Analysis, Recommendation) tool.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are becoming a significant, mission-driven trend within educational literature. To help address rising costs, instructors and designers are looking to OER to effectively replace traditional instructional content, which requires more than just identify and replace. Drawing from 51 OER studies conducted in countries across the five continents, this systematic literature review explored the empirical themes evident in the current research on a global scale. This review found (1) discoverability, sustainability, and remixing are significant barriers that stand in the way of OER disrupting traditional textbook models; (2) there is no significant difference in learning outcomes when …
