New Teachers And Old Pay Structures: An Analysis Of How Teacher Pay Influences Job Acceptance Of First-Year Teachers, Chance W. Lewis

Essays in Education

This study identified whether compensation packages were a factor in first-year teacher’s decisions to accept a teaching position in the states of Colorado and Louisiana. This study involved (a) identifying the components of a school district’s compensation package that were factors in the job acceptance decisions as indicated by respondents and (b) indicating other factors besides compensation that played a major role in job acceptance decisions.

The study surveyed a sample of 12 school districts in Colorado and Louisiana during the 2000-2001 academic school year. It included first-year teachers in the 12 approved school districts that had no previous teaching …

Case Vignette: Graduate Student Teaching Assignments. Sally Student, a doctoral candidate in experimental psychology, has spent much of the summer preparing to teach an undergraduate course in experimental psychology, scheduled for the upcoming fall semester. Approximately 1 week before the semester begins, she receives a call from the department chair, who asks whether Sally could teach another course instead. The chair explains that a new faculty member has elected to teach Experimental Psychology but that she may teach the other course that is available, Clinical Psychology, an area in which Sally has little experience or training. Assessing Student Strengths: Academic Performance And Persistence Of First-Time College Students At A Private Church-Affiliated College, Jeffrey S. Williamson

The research study sought to identify the significance or impact of strengths training received by first-time college students at a private, denominationally affiliated college that holds membership in the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and to determine whether or not there were statistically significant differences in first semester outcomes between students who received formal feedback and training on their identified strengths and those who do not receive their strengths results or training.

The Effects Of Technology On Urban High School Students' Sense Of Classroom Community, Mervyn J. Wighting

Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education

This study measured the sense of classroom community among students from two different grades in an independent urban high school (N = 181). A standardized instrument was used to compare sense of community in classes whose teachers used computers frequently and consistently in their instruction with others in which the teachers seldom or never included computer use in the classroom. Quantitative analysis revealed that there was a significant difference between the classes in terms of one of the sub-scales of the instrument; students whose teachers used computers frequently and consistently scored higher on the learning sub-scale of the sense …
