An Analysis Of Procedures Used In The Formulation Of School Board Policies In Cerro Gordo, Illinois, Harry R. Starkey

On August 12, 1976, the superintendent, being new to the school district, recommended to the board that it develop policies to guide the day-to-day operation of the schools. This task was assigned to the superintendent. Much time and effort were devoted to this project leading to the final approval of the school board policy in the late spring of 1980.
The author of this school board policy manual used the existing policy manual of …

The Nature Of The Middle School In Washington State - 1980, Edward Allen Barnhart
The Nature Of The Middle School In Washington State - 1980, Edward Allen Barnhart
All Master's Theses
The nature of the middle school in the state of Washington and its conformance to the middle school concept was studied. Eighty-four of the state's ninety-two middle school principals reported on programs and offerings in their schools. The study indicated that Washington middle schools conform favorably to the concept in all major areas except grading practices and athletic programs. The schools recognize a developmental stage of transescence and minister to it through child-child- centered rather than subject-centered programs. Further study is recommended to compare the middle school with the junior high school in the state of Washington.

Relationship Between Systematic Planning At Community Colleges And Goal Agreement, Nancy Emily Stetson
Relationship Between Systematic Planning At Community Colleges And Goal Agreement, Nancy Emily Stetson
All Master's Theses
The relationship between systematic planning at community colleges and goal agreement among administrators was studied. Sixty-nine administrators at four community colleges were surveyed. The results showed that administrators at the two community colleges who perceived their institutions to be relatively more systematic in planning also perceived relatively smaller gaps between what were, and what should be the goals of their institutions. By this measure, community college administrators demonstrated a consistent and positive relationship between systematic planning and goal agreement.
A Content Analysis Of Public School Education News In An Independently Owned Small Daily Newspaper, Linda L. Mccleary
A Content Analysis Of Public School Education News In An Independently Owned Small Daily Newspaper, Linda L. Mccleary
All Master's Theses
Newspapers and school districts form a tentative partnership in the dissemination of education news. Subjects preferred by readers have not been reflected in actual education news coverage. Emphasis on utility information at the expense of in-depth writing about what is going on in public education has been standard practice. Content analysis shows that while quantity of education news seems reasonable, the quality of that news fails to transmit to readers the substance of what teachers and children are accomplishing in the public schools.

A Study Of Principals’ Opinions About Minimum Competency Testing In Their Schools, Thomas J. Renze
A Study Of Principals’ Opinions About Minimum Competency Testing In Their Schools, Thomas J. Renze
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Minimum competency testing (MCT) has been a controversial educational issue for the past several years. Much of the literature on this topic has been written by educators and/or members of the public who are not directly responsible for implementation, administration, or evaluation of test results. This study was designed to gather information from primary sources concerning their opinions about the use of minimum competency testing programs in their own schools. Data was gathered during the 1978-79 school year.
Professional literature indicates that the minimum competency testing movement was generally initiated by individuals and groups outside of educational circles who were …

On November 3, 1970, the voters of Virginia approved a new Constitution. Within Article VIII, the education article, was the constitutional provision for a new statewide program to "seek to insure that an educational program of high quality is established and continually maintained" throughout the Commonwealth.
