One Sex, One School, Who Wins: How Single-Sex Learning Environments Impact Educational Attainment, Socio-Emotional Health, And Ambitions, Bradley Kirshenbaum
Master's Theses
Research on single-sex schools has covered a variety of matters regarding the effectiveness of their programs. This paper examines research on single-sex schools over the past 30 years in an effort to harmonize the past discourse with present trends. Journal articles and government research were used to synthesize the variety of methods used to ascertain whether single-sex schools have a positive influence on boys, girls, or both parties. Research trends have overwhelmingly supported all-girls schools, while remaining skeptical of any positive influence on boys. Much of the research supporting all-girls schools also suggests that single-sex schools' benefits are applicable to …
The Influence Of Late Registration On Academic Outcomes And Retention At A Multi-Campus Community College, Kathy John Maalouf
The Influence Of Late Registration On Academic Outcomes And Retention At A Multi-Campus Community College, Kathy John Maalouf
Counseling & Human Services Theses & Dissertations
In response to the increasing challenge for community colleges to uphold their mission of accessibility with an open door policy, while being held accountable for student success, higher education administrators and counselors need to have a better comprehension on the relationship among community college students, institutional enrollment policies, and academic success. The overall purpose of study was to broaden the understanding of the implications of late registration policy on community college students. Specifically, the purpose was to (1) investigate if there are statistical relationships between the demographics of community college students, registration behaviors, academic outcome, and retention (2) identify possible …
An Analysis Of Laboratory Inspections At The University Of Kentucky, Rachel Eldridge
An Analysis Of Laboratory Inspections At The University Of Kentucky, Rachel Eldridge
MPA/MPP/MPFM Capstone Projects
Recent news stories about laboratory accidents in which students were severely injured and killed have brought much-needed attention to lab safety. Creating a positive safety climate on college and university campuses is very important in reducing accidents. At the University of Kentucky, all laboratories are inspected once every year, and the results are recorded in a lab inspection database. These data include the department, building, lab classification, type of violation, room number, and the name of the PI (Principal Investigator). I want to analyze inspections to find out whether department and the lab classification are significant in looking at violations. …
Examining The Association Between Teacher Political Efficacy And Educational Policy Engagement, Malinda Cobb
Examining The Association Between Teacher Political Efficacy And Educational Policy Engagement, Malinda Cobb
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As state control over education increases, it is important to examine the teacher’s role in the educational policy making process. Currently, there is little research on Georgia’s educational policy systems. This study analyzed relevant variables to determine predictors of teacher participation. A 30 question instrument designed to measure teacher political efficacy and engagement was developed and administered. Demographic variables were analyzed to determine possible factors influencing efficacy and engagement. Findings showed that female teachers are predicted to participate more frequently in educational policy activities than males. Taking coursework in policy, having higher levels of internal political efficacy and having higher …
Charter School Principals' And Teachers' Leadership Perception Scores On The Five Dimensions Of The Leadership Practices Inventory Instrument, Tamara B. Kirshtein
Charter School Principals' And Teachers' Leadership Perception Scores On The Five Dimensions Of The Leadership Practices Inventory Instrument, Tamara B. Kirshtein
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
The purpose of this study was to determine differences between the self-perceptions of principals in relation to the five leadership practices delineated by Kouzes and Posner's (2003) Leadership Practices Inventory in relation to the perceptions of their teachers on their (principal) leadership across the same five dimensions. The Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test was used to compare the median differences for statistical significance to address the four hypotheses of this study.
Hypothesis 1: Perception scores of charter school principals on themselves and teacher perception scores of their principals will not differ significantly on the five dimensions of leadership. An analysis of …
Relationship Of Select Admissions Criteria To Pre-Licensure Requirements In A Graduate Degree Program In Occupational Therapy, Sharon Delaney Swift
Relationship Of Select Admissions Criteria To Pre-Licensure Requirements In A Graduate Degree Program In Occupational Therapy, Sharon Delaney Swift
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As the profession of occupational therapy continues to become widely recognized as a top career choice, the number of applications to occupational therapy educational programs continues to rise. To date there has been little research regarding the admission process and the admission variables used to select candidates for admission. Healthcare professions such as occupational therapy must reliably select those applicants who can succeed in the academic classroom and in the clinical setting by providing competent compassionate patient care.
This study sought to examine whether select cognitive and non-cognitive admission variables could be used to predict graduate performance on pre-licensure requirements …

"I Hope To Be A Symbol Of Encouragement": Using Craft In Community Colleges To Facilitate Student Voice In The Remedial Studies Debate, Aja Nadine Henriquez
Theses Digitization Project
The purpose of this study is to collect information about basic skills students in one cohort of 24 students at a local community college in order to inform policy-makers about the group for which they are making decisions. As faculty and administrators scramble to enact changes to cope with the current economy, political changes, and community demands, students are the only stakeholders whose voices aren't heard in the debate over what is to come of remedial studies in California Community Colleges. Throughout all of this research, one important element is missing in the discourse regarding remedial coursework in community college--the …
"Illegitimi Non Carborundum": Resilience In The Face Of Factory School Reform, Jennifer Nicole Brooks
"Illegitimi Non Carborundum": Resilience In The Face Of Factory School Reform, Jennifer Nicole Brooks
Theses Digitization Project
The purpose of this study is to explore, through semi-structured interviews, public school educators' perspectives on how they interpret and cope/deal with the current high-stakes educational climate. This qualitative study explores how teachers interpret and negotiate top-down mandates and the effects of such mandates on self-efficacy, professional autonomy, and stress. It also investigates what sources of inspiration and/or support perceived by teachers as helpful in cultivating resilience. Semi-structured interviews with seven public elementary school teachers in a Southern California district served as the primary sources of data.
A Case Study Of One Iowa Female Elementary School Principal's Journey Into Administration, Angela J. Fowler
A Case Study Of One Iowa Female Elementary School Principal's Journey Into Administration, Angela J. Fowler
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The representation of women in educational administration fluctuated throughout history from the 1900s to present day. Presently, women represent over 53% of all elementary school principals in Iowa; but documentation of their specific stories and perspectives is infrequent. I conducted this research with the intent to build upon the qualitative research studies previously completed on educational leadership; specifically lo include an ethnographic account of one female's story in an urban school district.
Through a series of in-depth interviews and participant observations, I gained the perspective of one female elementary school principal in Iowa's experiences into and through the principalship. In …
