To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development

It is a special thing to introduce Gene Rice and the substance of remarks he made to POD'ers gathered last October at Arlie House. Gene is a special person. He models the best qualities of the academic humanist: the personal presence of a Friend, the sensibility of a Jeffersonian, the rigor of a Talmudic scholar, and the vision of an ethnicist. And all of this is a contemporary twentieth century person. He's been with and of POD since the network's first days. And across that span, Gene's wisdom, bred equally of careful research, hands-on professional development experience and a lively …

Needs Assessment Model For Microcomputer Utilization By Public School Systems, Michael W. Throneburg Jan 1984

Needs Assessment Model For Microcomputer Utilization By Public School Systems, Michael W. Throneburg

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to prepare a needs assessment for development of administrative and instructional programs using the microcomputer at Paris High School in Paris, Illinois. It was hypothesized that this study might serve as a model for other school districts wishing to establish microcomputer programs.

A Microcomputer Survey Questionnaire was developed to gain information concerning the current status of microcomputer utilization throughout the Educational Service Region 11 of East-Central Illinois. This information proved valuable in helping to determine what was "actually'' taking place in area school districts regarding microcomputer utilization.

In addition, a review of the current …

An Evaluation Of The Involvement Component Of The Educational Planning And Resource Management System (Eprms) In The Orange County Florida Schools, Michael E. Mekdeci Jan 1984

An Evaluation Of The Involvement Component Of The Educational Planning And Resource Management System (Eprms) In The Orange County Florida Schools, Michael E. Mekdeci

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the study was to determine if the Educational Planning and Resource Management System (EPRMS), implemented by the Orange County Public Schools, increased parent and/or teacher involvement and communication in the school level decision making process. The study surveyed parents, teachers, and principals about their perception of the communication and involvement at their school during 1982-83 and 1983-84 (the year EPRMS was fully implemented). It was assumed that any increase in communication and/or involvement would be due to the Educational Planning and Resource Management System. A questionnaire was developed after an extensive literature review and input by a …

An Investigation Of Parents' Perceptions Of The Junior-Academy Principal's Role In The Lake Union Conference Of Seventh-Day Adventists, John Carey

Dissertations

Problem. If he/she is to satisfy or accommodate the expectations of the various groups that interact with him/her, the principal needs to be aware of how they perceive his/her role; but no studies were found on parents' perceptions of the junior-academy principal's role. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine parents' perceptions of the role of the principal in Seventh-day Adventist junior academies in the Great Lake states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Method. A descriptive survey design was utilized for this study. A closed-type questionnaire developed by the researcher was submitted to a panel of eleven …

A Study Of Finances Of Community Unit District #3, Georgetown, Illinois For The Years 1977 To 1983, Richard Eugene Wilson

Masters Theses

Accounting, funding procurement, and budgeting are described for Georgetown Community Unit District #3. Information for this paper was gathered primarily by examination of district financial records and interviews with district, county, and state educational employees.

State and federal funds provide approximately 73% of revenues of about $3,000,000 since Georgetown has one of the lowest equalized assessed valuations per pupil in the state. Almost $1,800,000 was spent by Community Unit District #3 on capital outlay from 1977 to 1983. Somewhat more than one-fourth of the capital outlay was financed by paying almost all building and maintenance expenditures and salaries from the …
