The purpose of this study was to make a comparison of personality variables between four essential dimensions of classroom climate. Creativity, Dynamism, Organized Demeanor, and Warmth and Acceptance were examined, with specific attention given to the relationship between Creativity and Organized Demeanor. The Tuckman Teacher Feedback Form, an instrument designed to measure these variables, was selected and implemented in this study. One hundred and eighteen teachers teaching in grade level positions that ranged from Kindergarten through the twelfth grade, were administered the Tuckman instrument during their annual evaluation period by their building administrators. This project presents the development of a student handbook for Odessa Junior-Senior High School. The handbook was designed to define the rules, regulations, procedures, requirements, activities and services of Odessa Junior-Senior High School. This is the first comprehensive handbook in the history of the school. The handbook was developed from the handbooks of many other high schools and the school board policy manual of the Odessa School District. Many sections have been approved as to legality. Recommendations include an annual review and revision of the handbook by a committee made up of faculty, administration, parents, school board and students.

The purpose of this study was to explore administrator compliance orientation and teacher personality relationships and differences between Catholic private and public school organizations in West Virginia. The Personality Research Form, Form E (Jackson, 1974) was administered to 41 teachers of a Catholic private school organization and to 38 teachers of a public school organization. Statistical analysis of the Personality Research Form, Form E (PRF-E) data using an ANOVA method revealed significant differences between the school organizational groups for 5 of the 22 personality traits measured. The results indicated public school teachers were higher achievers, more that aggressive, more concerned …

This study was designed to examine the expectations held by key administrative personnel within West Virginia’s county school systems regarding the role of the special education administrator. Seven functional areas of administration containing forty specific tasks were examined to identify potential areas of conflict among and between special education administrators, superintendents and principals. Data resulting from 202 returns of the questionnaires and demographic surveys from the 260 individuals contacted were analyzed to test fourteen null hypotheses. Respondents were asked to rate perceived performance of tasks as well as their perception of the degree of importance of each. Demographic data were …

The purpose of this study was to survey the subject certified staff of Florida public elementary schools to determine how elements of Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory were perceived as being met in their current school employment. The descriptive study utilized an instrument that listed each of the 16 job factors in Herzberg’s theory. The instrument was designed to allow subjects to mark each job factor as contributing to their job satisfaction, neutral, or contributing to their job dissatisfaction. This study was designed to discover which merit pay evaluation and implementation factors were considered important by members of the Florida Teaching Profession - National Education Association (FTP-NEA). Comparisons were made of opinions within various subgroups (district size, position within organization, sex, race, age, years teaching, highest degree earned, assignment, secondary assignment).

The sample included the State Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of the United Faculty of Florida CUFF-university personnel), and FTP-NEA members in two-thirds of the local affiliates. The question of whether the school board or the superintendent really governs public schools continues to appear in the literature. An issue related to this question is the amount of political and policy leadership exercised by superintendents.

The purpose of this study was to make a beginning inquiry into current expectations for superintendent political and policy leadership by school board presidents.

Five hypotheses were identified involving variables of political and policy leadership, intraboard cohesion, and size of the district.

A Survey And Analysis Of The Beginning Teacher Program In Florida And Its Relationship To Effective Education, Joanne Mullins Olson

This study was conducted to determine whether there were significant factors contributing to a teacher's ability to perform effectively in the classroom. An approximate 5% stratified random sample was selected from 9,401 possible subjects in Florida's Beginning Teacher Program between 1982 and 1985. A comparison of descriptive and reportive data was performed for teachers who completed and teachers who did not complete the program.

Statistical measures included the use of contingency tables, chi-square statistic, frequency distributions and t-tests. Results suggested that a teacher's possibility of successfully completing Florida's Beginning Teacher Program was influenced by the participant's age, grade point average, …

Surveys of women in higher education administrative positions that identified factors which may contribute to career development have been conducted. However, the literature revealed little information regarding the importance placed on those factors by women in higher education administrative positions. The purpose of this study was to determine the importance of selected contributors to career development of women in higher education administration. Data were gathered by a mailed questionnaire to a sample of women administrators employed in Florida state supported community colleges and universities. The purpose of the study was to construct a service cost index (SCI) for a sample of Iowa school districts and to use the SCI to examine the relationship school district size has to efficiency of educational services delivery. The SCI was based upon the computation of the cost of delivering a fixed market basket of services to a typical student in each of 44 randomly selected Iowa high schools. One hundred fifty-eight (158) superintendents of second-class school districts in Washington State were surveyed to determine the selection procedures utilized in the appointment to the principalship. A survey questionnaire was developed and divided into five steps of the selection procedure. The results of the survey questionnaire indicate that the selection procedure varies tremendously and no consistent procedures were found among the school district superintendents surveyed.

In October, 1984, the U.S. Department of Education and the National Commission on Excellence identified 202 schools and 54 principals that met their school effectiveness criteria (Appendix C) and later that year they were given national recognition.

This researcher reviewed literature by Edmonds (1982), Eicholtz (1984), Guthrie (1980), Brookover and LeZotte (1982), Sergiovanni (1984) and others on effective schools as a validity reference in measuring the responses of the surveyed principals who listed what they perceived as being school effectiveness factors.

The purpose of this field study was to identify the need and present a workable model designed to address minority dropout prevention for the Decatur, Illinois, Public School District #61. The overall district dropout rate at the time this field study commenced was 26.6 percent. However, the dropout rate for minority (Black) males was 43.1 percent and 24.9 percent for minority (Black) females. The data shows that a problem of minority dropouts did exist in Decatur School District #61 and that a preventive program was needed to address this problem.The Program to Improve Student Attendance (PISA), was designed for use …

The town of Bement, Illinois, had an elementary school (K-8) and a high school (9-12) prior to 1976. The Bement Community Unit School District initiated its junior high school in 1976. This school consisted of the seventh and eighth grades.

During the 1983-84 school year, the administrators of the Bement schools expressed a general concern with the academic grades, social development, and behavior that was occurring in the Bement Junior High School. Adult students over the age of 25 have comprised a significant proportion of student body in traditionally youth-oriented institutions of higher education. At Eastern, adult students comprised 7.2 percent of the population of undergraduate students in the Fall, 1986. Based on an institutional survey, this study attempted to gain a deeper understanding about adult students' academic and personal experiences of returning to a four-year university.

One-fourth of the adult students (N=183) were randomly selected and invited to participate in this study. A total of 104 adult students returned the questionnaires. Participants' responses were categorized into six groups in accordance with …
